Miraclegrow organic compost

High there.... Miraclegrow have lauched a new compost here in the uk and it claims to be completey organic.
I was just wondering if anyone has tried it or knows anything about it, is it good or bad?

I don't grow organic... but i might give this compost a try on my next run, unless anyone has had any bad experience with it...

I use the standard MG. with great results, just check my gallery for pix, but i am thinking of converting to organic and this mg. organic sounds ok.

What you think?

I think even I was 100% sure it was 100% organic I wouldn't give MG a fucking dime seing as to them organics is a "band wagon" they are just getting on for the $.

Their idea of organic is battery chicken waste and other such loathsome products from loathsome industries that are not organic in the least.

I'm not trying to jack your thread, I just think there are many more option from many more quality suppliers.

Good Luck

I saw the stuff the other day and i thought about punching holes in all the bags then peeing on them so my big box hardware and "chemical garden" store would smell oh so wonderful. What Suby said.

Suby, you give me faith in the human race.

Gudbud: you don't grow organic........sorry to hear that. May you someday see the light.

Love and peace.

GodBud,
I don't know about their compost, but I have used their Organic Choice potting soil. The medium is a bit chunky (perhaps not composted enough?), and it was full of fungus gnats which are annoying. My plants turned out fine otherwise. If it wasn't for the fungus gnats I would consider using it again. It does contain higher amounts of arsenic due to the poultry manure that they use as a source of fertilizer. If there is nothing else available it may be worth looking into. Hope this helps.

I know that's a shitty thing to post right after you post the thread subject.
I have a hard time with maketing hype and sub par products that create a bad rep for organic growers and quality organic soils.

Again carry on by all means that was my dimes worth.

I'm with Suby.
MG just has a very bad reputation around here. For instance, their organic potting mix is full of sweepings off of commercial chicken house floors. Have you ever checked into what they feed commercial chickens?
Not in my mix!
Come on Suby, tell us how you REALLY feel. lol

If you're going to buy compost, get something where they have done BIOLOGICAL testing on the compost. That is, unless you're going to put a bunch of chemicals in it anyway, in which case nutrient cycling isn't so critical.

Make the compost yourself if you can or if you're buying compost that hasn't been tested, I'd use vermicompost or worm castings, as they seem to be the most consistently processed material.

I have to agree with Suby on this one. Go with a company that has consistently produced organic products, not a company that is just switching over to capture another market share and has polluted our environment with nitrates and other chemicals.

Give the organic program a try......it's totally worth it!

Organic Certification

Organic Certification

What the Miracle Grow folks have done is simply taken advantage of the murky laws in the US (and elsewhere) on what is or is not 'organic' - Organic Certification

Under USDA regulations there is nothing to stop them from using the term 'organic' on a soil mix - it's a term without definition.

Same deal with FoxFarm calling their potting soil(s) 'organic' - under the law they technically are able to used this term in spite of the fact that there's nothing at all 'organic' about their soil(less) mixes.

Being 'certified organic' even in the areas where it does have specific standards and meanings like fresh produce, processed food, etc. - you would be shocked on how loose the standards actually are. And in the area of soil amendments there are no standards whatsoever. You could literally scrape the dirt from under fingernails, bag it and you could legally call it 'organic'

Is compost safe indoors?

I use Kellogg's compost for my outdoor grow and I want to do some indoors after I harvest in October.

Read the bag good, if it says " Caution use gloves when handling this product" like their other soils do def dont use it.
