a little help

hi everyone, i am growing some ww seeds i found in a sack ...i have a few q's if anyone mite help that would be great...

i started out with 13 seeds and had 6 of them germ ..they were very small seeds all but 1 was small....has anyone ever grown out really small seeds.and what kinds of trouble did you run in to if any.....

i am woundering when to remove the baggie off the pots ..as soon as they break threw the soil or should i leave it till theres acouple sets of leaves..i am hoping these things wont die cause i want to use these for my outdoor grow this yr and clone a few moms for my indoor when its done..

also i have a fan running on them ..they are in my front window which faces east and gets great morning sun till noon ..at dusk i put them in a closet with 1 cfl for now..i really dont mind them stretching at this time..

i have noticed the second set of leaves which are very small ,look a little white or dryed on the edges..
i have never had any trouble in the past starting this way but i never started with ww seeds ..
they get dirrect sun in the morning from the window..
i started them in soil from wally world that was for seeds starting..theres no nutes in it ,so i am not sure i am seeing nute burn on those edges of the leafs..

i only have 3 that have broken threw the soil so far and the rest of the seeds i have still in papertowels to germ..but i am not sure they are going to germ tho..been almost a week and a half since i started them..

any help would be great...

thanks

Hi herb im growing ww myself at the minute.
Small seeds in my expierance dosent make any differance, good things come in small packages.
When germining seeds in paper towels, once split and the tap root is out around 1cm,I plant into medium leaving the shell above as the tap root will allways go down I dont see a need to bury them.
You said 3 out of six had germed but only 3 ave came up,theres no bury them when germed this way.
If your pots are covered, again not a thing I do,once you see the top either put holes in or remove.
The fact your usuing ww wont make a differance to the process.
Im not sure about the hardness or whiteness, the soil might have nutrients in small amounts, idk.
A picture of the seedlings would help alot.
Scarification,is a good idea with old seeds, increaseing the germination rates.
Basicly,to scarifiy you go round the seed with a sharp blade cuting into the seed shell a little.Be very carefull,as you dont want to touch the embryo.
Ive also seen people actually crack the seed making sure not to damage them for quicker germination.
Hope this is of some help, and goodluck herb!

thanks for replying..i have always buryed them..i have to say i was always using a couple hundred seeds then and wasnt worryed about loosing any of them..but with just having a couple good seeds i didnt want to waste them..

i have helped seedlings shed their shells before but its been awhile..the 3 that are up never had their shells on them when they broke threw the soil..

the round leafs are ok but its the first set of leaves with ridges that is kinda white looking..they are very small but ya can still see a little white on the edge of those leaves...tiny little leaves ...kinda reminded me of a wind burn my tomatoes exsperanced a few yrs back ,because they wernt protected when i first put them out..

maybe its just that they are still young and cloraphil hasnt filled in yet..

now i have baggies over them and as they brake threw the soil i should uncover them from the little baggie tent's ,....right.....?

thanks again..

Hi herbie, yeah you can safely remove the tent once they push through, alternitivly you can leave it on untill it reaches the top.
If you decied to leave them untill there up bear in mind your need to make air holes.
When not usuing a propagator it would be benificial to keep the humidity up.
Im not sure about the white on your leaves,as far as wind burn goes turn your fan down a little an make sure its not blowing directly on them.
Looking forward to sum pics.
Good luck Herbie and let us know how you get on.

sorry i am trying to get some pics up for ya ...i have an old cheepie camera but my windows program wont let it work ,so i am having my buddy stop by tomorrow with his camera and i hope toget some pics up soon..

i was looking at another grow diary on here for ww and the babys they showed looked just like these except they were bigger then these..

i see one of the seeds i figured to be no good germed today.i also cut the shells of the remaining seeds that hadnt germed yet to see if they mite still break open..i just scrapped the seam with the tip of a razor blade...

i thought maybe these that have growen threw the soil were damping off but i am not sure..

i made it so the fan pulls air across them instead of blowing on them...

i'll try and get those pics to ya soon..

my buddy with the camera asked if i was intrested in a nl mommy about 3 ft tall..i guess one of his guys has one they are going to part with..so things are looking up a little if my ww dosnt make it..

thanks
