Staged lighting during bloom?

I am trying to design an assembly line style SoG grow with two separate 3x3 trays. After I fill one tray with clones, it will sit under a 600HPS for 5-7 weeks or roughly the 1/2 point depending on strain (growing mainly Sativa dom strains). At the 1/2 point, I'll add another 3x3 tray full of clones. My original design is based on having a 2nd 600HPS for the tray, but I am starting to wonder if it makes sense to have a 600HPS for "phase one" and a 1000HPS for phase two. The thinking is that the extra light penetration power will be advantageous when the plants are taller during phase two.

The question is: will the predicted results be worth the extra heat and watts?

No, staggered harvests should have the same conditions, so there is equal production. I mean if you want to yield a little more every other harvest... go for it.

yes, use a 1000 for phase 2. bigger, denser buds, plain and simple. I keep my 1000s higher for the first 3 weeks, then drop'em down once the plants are bigger and more robust. similar effect as upgrading the light in your case. works great.

I think the OP is stating that he/she would always finish on the table with the 1000. So basically, if I'm understanding it correctly, the first batch of clones will start flowering under the 600 and then be moved under the 1000 to finish.

That sounds good to me, and it would seem that you would certainly gain using the 1000.

Sorry, I wasn't clear enough. Let me elaborate with a "workflow:"

A batch of rooted clones in a 3x3 tray goes into 12/12 under "Light A" (600HPS). When that batch is roughly 1/2 of the way through bloom, they are moved under "Light B" (1000HPS) and a new batch takes its place under "Light A."

I think it is clear that this would increase yield over having another 600HPS for "Light B," but will the increase be worth the general negatives of a 1000HPS vs a 600HPS?

go for it. you will also have the unused light from the 1000 overflowing to the other clones that are under light A.
