Hi dudes got a problem, took two cuttings from a hashberry and rooted them in canna jiffi pots then put them into 3" pots and then into four litre one's.This is were my problems start, went to look at them yesterday and one of them has rotted and snapped at the soil line maybe 5mm up from soil. The other one is rotting half way through! Its white and feels like sugar or salt, some form of crystal type substance.Plants are about 10" tall and look sweet, thats what is strange, please help as there is nothing wrong with the plant i took this from, infact the stem is the biggest i have grown and is in full flower. They have been on ph 5.6 and ec has been low due to them being a bit touchy,i'd say ec of 1.2,Please ask for pics iff needed and i can sort....... :badday: :badday:

If uve cut the meristem it could be mold infection in the stem.I would clean the effected area and cover the wound with tape or sumthing untill its healed alough you might need to cut it were the infection has shown to stop it.
Pics would help alot.

If one snapped at the soil line you might have some fungus such as pythium, rhyzoctonia, phytopthera, etc.. the same stuff that causes damping off in seedlings. Do a search for those terms and see if one fits. Use a fungicidal spray on the soil and the stems. There are plenty of organic antifungals, garlic spray works well.

Did these clones have roots? Or did you just cut and put them into pots?
JIffy pots are meant to be put outside to decompose once they have roots and are being put outside... in the ground.

You are better off using jiffy peat pellets or known as peat pucks...... or using rapid rooters you can buy at a hydro shop......

myname is stich,I Should explain better,i took cuttings from 2 month old plant and put in to those little 1inch coco blocks. They were then put into plasic holder and placed into propergater. In propergater i put about 2inch's of coco in bottom as it kept getting to hot.95% humidity and a temp of about 74-76 is what it stablized at.After 5 to 6 days i had them all rooted, real chunky roots on them all,put them in to 3inch pots and put under flouro's for three days then under envirolite until they had out grown pot. From these i placed them into 4 litre pots, then some two weeks later i have this rotting at base. One has fell over and it appears to have rotted in side, like somebody put an elastic band around it and circulatin has been cut off.Strange as the plant itself shows no sign at all of ill health.Roots are'nt rotted,no bad smell. The stem appears to be turning into some sort of salt no fluid leakage or strange colours, the rot is a bit white in colour.ph 5.8 and a low ec as canna recomend, using coco a coco b,rizo.ec 0.8 to 1,do you think my nutes should be stronger to stave of fhungi's and mould, this is my first go with coco, all advice wellcome, please ask iff i have not answered anything

Is it not possible to cut the stem with a clean blade below the infection?
