Looks great - I've had awesome results with those 42w cfls.

Hi Georgia
You might consider swapping a few 42W bulbs with 6500K bulbs when vegging. Give yur girls a bit more blue light to cut down on stretching.
Actually a mixed spectrum seems to work pretty well from sprout to harvest.
Good luck.

If you're only flowering in there then yur good to go like you are.

No, sometimes too much red light at the beginning of veg can cause some lengthening of the internodes........so they say.

you should add some more 42w or upgrade to bigger bulbs, u have just over 3000 lumens per sq ft were as you want 8-10,000 lumens per sq ft @ 2700-3000k for flowering

....but you constantly spout about these lumen figures of yours and you say "watts are meaningless." How did you come up with these numbers? How do you figure that lumen rating are any more meaningful than watts? Do you realize that lumens are as arbitrary to plant growth as watts? PAR watts are the only thing plants "see" that we can measure, not watts or lumens. Using watts as a relative guide works well enough and always has for everyone. Keep it Simple.

Go tell DrB that he needs more "lumens per square foot" , LOL.

The flowering area ( the space under the hood thing where I will have plants is 12'' X 30'' 2 and 1/2 sq' so 2700 X 5 = 13500

13500 / 2.5 = 5400

Damn it,,, thanks cfl....king,,, its back to the drawing board for me,,

I have two warm white bright stik fluorescent tubes they are only 725 lumens
that would be a extra 580 and bring me to 5980 damn it,, and I got one more fluorescent tube that is a lot brighter than the other two do you guys think I should mount these tubes or mount some more of the 42 watt cfl's on the walls

DrBud has "only" 6750 lumens per square foot, all warms, and his results are the pinnacle for micro growing. Don't put too much weight in one person's opinion, unless they have some real results to back it up.

This is what I have got done today I made an exhaust thing I have the fans at about a 45 from the roof I hope this will get the heat out Behind the fans I have 13 1'' holes and at the bottom of each side I have 3 1' holes

Can you get some shots of the whole setup? It's hard to tell exactly what you've got going on in there.

Hoods trap a lot of heat, even well ventilated ones, so you may want to consider a more open design. You should give it a dry run with temp reading from different areas in the cab, so then you have some point of reference to work from. It may be fine the way it is, don't know 'till you run it.

I was hopeing I could get a even canopy SOG with clones in there thats why I am working on this hood thing I think I can get 8 in a line if I put them closer together but I am not gonna go with any larger size bulb because I do my shopping in town and the 42 is as big as they got I don't have a credit card and if I did I still wouldn't order stuff online,, I still have smoke this is just a project,,

For price, efficiency and availability, it's hard to beat the 42watters. 8 of them will be very hot, so be prepared to make accommodations for a dramatic exhaust/ventilation system.

Wish I could grow outside!

I hate to rain on anyone's parade, since I really do my best to be a mellow peaceable guy, but I'm going to have to agree with Pig-Pen and say don't worry about the lumens at all since plants really only see PAR watts. And you really don't have to be so exact about figuring out how much you need there, just go by how many watts the bulbs are and shoot for having 50 watts per square foot and you'll be assured good results.

That said, your space is about 3.16 feet wide by 1.41 feet deep, so you've got 4.45 square feet of growing space. Which means that you'd want somewhere around 225 or so watts of light (more is better, but 225 is plenty enough). And since you've now got five 42 watt bulbs you have a total of 210 watts.

If you could I'd say throw in 1 more bulb for good measure, but if you don't have the space or don't want the hassle of re-mounting and wiring everything again than I'm sure you'll have just fine results with the 5 bulbs you have now.

So yeah, don't stress to much about the lighting man. Everything looks nice and clean and I'll be anxious to see how the final version of your cab turns out! :smoke:

I am all most done with the new hood. What do you guys think White paint or the Mylar looking stuff?

Paint that Bad Boy with many layers of flat white (after a good primer to seal the pores)...to reflect and Waterproof.
that pressboard with cut edges will begin to expand as it absorbs Humidity

Nice lookin hood idea

im not gonna claim to be some sort of expert grower im far from it, but i do have a couple of complete grows under my belt as well as about 6 uncompleted for various reasons grows, all under CFL. the max i ever had was 120watts combined in a growing area roughly 2/3 the size of what you have. you will be fine, just keep the lights close to the tops of the plants.

Im not sure what the difference in lumens is between the 42w an 40watters but should be so minamal that you shouldnt really notice
