Believe it or not, if you are owed money by the IRS, you only have to file every third year..

I used to do mine three years at a whack up till a year ago, but you have to have money due back and not owe them. If you owe them, the penalties will add up quick and then interest on the owed balance.

Midnight at the post office mad house.....shit makes me laugh

Good luck

I'm like the Kid. I do mine every two years. As he said, it only matters if you owe.

Reallllly? The only problem with that is that you are loosing out on tons of money in interest and giving it to the IRS :(, last year i made about $100 on INTEREST alone from my 06' return...
5% savings account.

Although still nice for people that dont make much money i guess. I also love the midnight post office rushers; I have a feeling this is going to fade out with our generation as everyone starts e-filing, hell I dont know anyone under 30 that doesn't I don't think...

I know someone who files old-school pencil and paper forms because it makes it harder for the IRS to audit.

Right on! Make it harder for those rat bastards to do their jobs. We should all go back to pencil and paper forms.

So there we were one night booking out, NY taxi drivers, it was my first year in the fleet. Most drivers took their job very seriously as it is a cash job & the harder you work it the more it's worth exponentially. Chatter was lively as we prepared our cash drops for the night when I noticed it was April 15th. Strictly as a joke mind you I spoke up loudly enough for everyone to hear me, "Hey, it's tax day. What do we do around here to report our taxes?" And just like that EF Hutton commercial the room fell silent, all eyes/ears on me, mouths hung open in utter disbelief,
friggin' priceless.......

I'm always filing late......I can never get my ass moving to do this crap each year. What a fucking drag. Why can't they do the Forbe's "Flat tax" and just tax the hell out of everything we buy? It makes sense to just tax consumable goods.....tax laws and all the bs that comes with it is a headache. If everyone just had to pay taxes on what they bought at the time of purchase..there would be no need for an IRS, and no audits (of course). Oh well.

Best thing is to wind up paying a very very small amount at this time...otherwise the Govt. is hanging onto your money for a year at no interest. Getting a big refund is not the good deal it seems....better to have had that money in the bank drawing interest or invested. It's all about managing your paycheck deductions or quarterly estimated payments if self employed.
