Little Plant is Sick - Why? - Help

I planted 2 seeds, one is doing really well the other has always been slow and small, but healthy until 2 days ago, today it looked like this:



This was taken 4 days ago:



Only thing I have done is watered it with plain water, same as the other plant (and the chilli's you can see in the pic)

What happened to it?

I decided to see what its loots were like and it really only had one fat root (it doesn't seem to have taken up much water, soil was soaking as you can see - I allowed it to drain after watering)

If the plant is tiny, it is not using a lot of water, in soil it is easy to overwater..... lucky you know about good drainage, but even with that, you can overwater easily.

Yep. my plants did that leaf bending from overwatering as well, let um dry out before u water again.

It looks to me like its gonna die? Sorry for being the one bringing the bad news.I think you have root rot from to much water maybe you can transplant it into some more soil and put it under a good warm light( I don't know? ) Have you got more seed? because if nothing else it's gonna be shocked so if you started a new seed it would probably get as big or bigger than that one before that one could recover. But anyway good luck I am no plant Dr. this is just my opinion from the 12 years experience I have with our plants. peace n love

Would over watering cause the brown rust like marks on the leaves too? (I know its not a good picture but I couldn't get a good enough close up shot)

After taking the picture of it I pulled it out the soil to look at the roots figuring it was gonna die anyway, like I said above it didn't have much

I do have some other seeds just dont want to be growing to many!!

Fingers crossed my big plant is a girlie!!!

I have had foliage rot like that with clones when I had high humidity and if you don't snip it off it will spread and kill the plant, but if its in the roots your to late, you must have them under a small light 24/24 lights on if you give them some night time you will get a better root mass but if they are not under a good light they will stretch a small fan will help strengthen the little plant so you won't have to support it with a stake and will also lower your humidity, peace n good luck with you plants

Hey Dopey,

Please remember - when dealing with soil it's not like hydro... rather than having ultimate control over the root zone you must wait with soil to let the lady show you what she needs.

The best method, I have personally used, for watering is: wait until she SHOWS you she needs water. In other words, water her then wait until she droops... might be 9 days, might be 12... when she does, then you know you should have watered her 1 day earlier (so for 12 days, you should have watered at the 11th day)....

Luckily, these are literally WEEDS...and although they require drought they can last through the worst of environments.

looks like your plant in the top pic is going through some ph flux... or has a gnarly p/k def... the way the edges of the leafs are dead and dry....
peppers look good though.

id let the soil dry out.... water her with some RO days later...

LOL, I used to have a lovely little female, she once escaped and rounded the neighbours cats up into the neighbours bedroom ..... my that was popular ....


TBH I cannot say if your little brown rusty marks are caused by overwatering, I would normally guess pH.......... what feed are you using and have you adjusted the pH ?

If you are starting out, I recommend Optimum [growth technology] as it is simple, reliable, and quite a few UK growers find the "hard water mix" lowers the pH sufficiently that you need to add no extra acid to the mix, making things very simple. It is not just for beginners, the "best" grower I know has used it happily for a decade.

Its strange how 2 plants grown in the exact same circumstances can end up so different!

My big plant recovered from nute burn and is looking good (well to me anyway!)
