How does a water chiller work?

I may sound stupid but I have never setup a water chiller for any reservoir. I have never had any fish nor have I tried hydro prior to this experience (a success I might add).

How do you setup a water chiller like this:

Please show me a pic because that would just be really helpful. :D

Thanks

i think you need a pump that is recommended to push your water through it, inlet and outlet. Depending on your model of chiller you'll need a pump in whatever range.

I see. So the nutes won't damage the chiller? I mean isn't it meant for freshwater/saltwater only? We have lots of stuff in our nutes...

Does this mean if I am running aeroponics with misters and such that I will need a separate external pump to cool the res water down? Then use my existing submersible pump to distribute the now cold water through the misters?

Thanks

looks like a 1/10 chiller..... you need a 185 gph pump
on the top there is a input & a output unscrew the caps and screw in the 1/2 elbow run the input to your output of the pump put the pump in the rez then the output of the chiller back to the rez it's that easy....... mine is und a table so you cant see it but here's a pic

one pump runs the system and one runs the chiller..... the reason you need 2 is you want the chiller on 24/7

Ok I have a much better idea of how this thing works. So you leave your existing submersible pump in the res and place an external water pump between the res and chiller, right?

you dont need a external pump i use the cheap 185 gpm eco plus pump ( 10 bux ) nute's for hydro is basicly the same as "saltwater" i have used my chiller 24/7 for about 4 yr's now..... dont spill "saltwater" on it haha i had one go up in flames

So you place the "cheap 185gph" pump in the same res with the other pump but use it for pump in/out the nutrient water? Please say yes because that is my understanding of it.

Wow that is impressive. So are you referring to the nute water or actually salt water?

Thanks for the fast replies. ICMAG has grown a lot.
