Ahhhhh the hash bash! :D

Myself and another IC member (What up, j  ) attended the Hash Bash in (get this) 1989.

.
I remember seeing Steve Hagar and some of the HT crew show up in the freedom fighter getups.

Then you have seen "DrBud" in person.....tri-cornered hat and all that was me on the left hand side carrin' the Banner.......that was a fun year, that was the first year that Rodger had his purple Bus and Teepee............

The Hash Bash 4/89 was my last time on stage for the HempTour........I was on between Chef Ra' and Dana Beal.....You might remember me as "The Guy W/the Bong on like a Rifle accross my back?
that was the year that the phrase:bongsmi: :bongsmi: "Bongs not Bombs" :bongsmi: :bongsmi: was coined

Rock on HT :headbange "Freedom Fighters" :headbange :headbange

This is the Bong that started it ............She was there on my back on a sling
Wow thats an old Bong.............lol :rasta:

Hash Bash weather still projected for high of 53, partly cloudy with a 20% chance of rain.

Still sounding like a good time for all.

a Michigan Daily editorial about Hash Bash published today:

All in all, I'd say this article is fairly accurate. However, I feel I must oppose the marginalizing language used to describe the people who have attended Hash Bash in recent years. Far from being "hippies," we are teachers, medical and mental health professionals, lawyers, veterans, police officers and other first responders, and above all, parents. We are not attending Hash Bash for nostalgia value, and most of us have given up fighting for our right to party.

Yes, we may be a bit long in the tooth, some of us longer than others, but we share one goal in common. Many of us have experienced firsthand the inherent injustice of a so-called "justice system" run amok for the purposes of corporate profits and statistical bragging rights for hypocritical "law and order" politicians. Our common goal is to end this inherent systemic injustice within our lifetimes, so that our youth will not have to endure yet another generation of administrative, legislative and judicial abuse.

Folks,

Actually HASH BASH started out being about people coming out to the DIAG and getting HIGH.
The problem is it no longer is what it once was?
Why?
Well, the Government has forced some and apathy and fear have caused the rest.
1st, the local government in Ann Arbor passed local laws that meant that people were not subject to the harsh penalties of the state.
2nd, the city stopped sending its police to the HASH BASH and that left the University to enforce state law.
3rd. The University has its own Police force.
4th, They can't arrest us all......
5th We are going to gather, if they want to play music maybe we should just kick back and light up?

It's funny because when you are on the side of right its very easy to come up with stuff.....
I get about 2 calls an hour from high-ons calling to ask if HASH BASH is really going to happen.
The last idiot asked if we were going to have a turn yourself in line....I explained that if you want to get busted all you have to do is light up a joint, and we were not going to make it easy for the cops,,,She asked if we are going to have HASH BASH even if there is another group there playing music.....I explained that we have been fighting the University for years to keep this going. They will never stop us.

or at least not me........

Our time at the diag is going to be very short this year. Look for the Monroe st fair.
It runs along side of the U of M.

On Monroe St Ann Arbor laws rule .. 25$ fine. and there's waaaayyy to many of us today to bother.

The gathering has been so peaceful that in the past Ann Arbor has stopped sending cops to watch the place.

I'll be manning the east end street blockade right next to the mi-norml tent

Looking like a beautifulll day!!

I made the trip. (didn't make it home until the early AM of Sunday, but with out a doubt worth the journey) And can I say, WHAT A FANTASTIC TIME!!!The social aspect and seeing so many people from so many walks of life show up and give support of something that is normally quite taboo...WAS GREAT!!! Such a sunny, beautiful day, and the sweet smell of herb just wafting through the air with every breeze...ahhh...This peaceful gathering could exsist all the time IF people would wake up to the absolute absurdity of prohibition in the first place. A PERFECT example of how cannabis users ARE NOT criminals or violent or dumb/lazy (trust me, lazy not an option, so much walking around to do...lol) or any of the other misconceptions that the media portrays us to be. Just every day people. Just like every one else. But MADE into criminals and outlaws/rebels....by a government that fears change and free-thinkers and is unwilling to accept responsibility for the misguided propoganda they have pushed for nearly 100 years. Anyway...Managed to find my way around quite well, made a couple of new friends, and managed to get in touch with myself....many times in fact....hehehehe. I really don't know where to start other than to say, THE ONLY WAY to understand is to show up and experience. I PROMISE to post some pics up of the event, but I gotta wait for my buddy to get his film developed...I think he shot more than 5 rolls of film...lol....I will be smiling about and remembering this event for many months to come. I think I might already be itching for next year!!!!!It is my understanding that MSU has had or is attempting an event as well this year on 4/20. I am almosting thinking I will have to pull my head out of the sand for this as well...anyone know anything about this. dank.Frank
