What's new

newbie forum?

just wondering if there would be a possibility of starting a forum for 1st/2nd time growers... it would be nice to look at other smaller set-ups all in one place, and if the experienced guys felt like doing some humanitarian time they would know where to go to keep us from making rookie mistakes. just a thought. it's probably been thought of before.

and if anyone could tell me how to do delete an accidental thread (sorry guys, i have to smoke a lot of weed) that would be killer. i have two diaries for one grow. :kos:

thanks

If you did that then you would have a bunch of newbie questions being asked and answered by other novice growers. I see a problem with that. I think we have enough to read as it is. Peace

yeah, i guess you're right, badger. so much for brainstorming after medicating. suppose i'll just stick with trying to get a decent crop for now. at any rate, thanks for the reply...

This is a great idea and if I had seen the thread at the time I would have posted so sooner.

A grow FAQ of sorts is an excellent way at reducing multiple useless threads and creating a benchmark from which to start.

so...BUMP

Would be a good idea, better yet maybe someone can write a few stickies for the absolute beginners and put them up in the growers forum. Most of the newbie questions have already been answered via the search feature though.

i agree it would be a great idea. as a novice myself i feel like there is a bit of hostility from some of the more experienced growers who forget that everyone has to start somewhere, and at one time they too knew very little about that wonderful plant called cannabis.

anyway, great idea :)

There's a word for this sort of thing, it's called books. 30 years ago, it was anything written by ED Rosenthal or Mel Frank. Todays guru seems to be Jorge Cervantes. Read your book all the way through once a night, every night for a week.

Check the Micro Forums for a huge selection of small grows. Also the NGB thread, the Mill's Pride Club and various threads centered around 150 watt and 250 watt grows.

Truth is - all, and I mean ALL of the content is already in these forums in one location or another. I find that the majority of newb growers fail to search or for some odd reason believe their situation is different than those thousands before them.

A great example is when someone is experiencing a plant issue. Rather than look at the countless pictures posted of the multiple def's or plant problems, they post a picture of theirs asking for help.

Dont get me wrong..first and foremost, I still and will probably always believe myself to be a newb - allows me to remain teachable and removes the ole "I'm better than you" attitude. However, I do what most do - search... google... use the chat... and so on.

I dont think I have yet run into an issue with growing, setup, config, equip, strains, etc that I was unable to locate another on this forum going through the same thing.

Therefore, I believe a FAQ is a great idea - but it's already out there! Google cannabis faq, or grow bud faq.... you'll find loads.

well i suppose if all information is already on these forums or the intraweb somewhere there is no point in posting anything at all here. no need to ask questions, no need to trade and compare techniques, no need for this site at all.

if we compare the ic forums to a school setting, what your saying is that students shouldn't ask questions to their teachers because all the answers are already in the text book, or in the library. there aren't to many places where you can find this many people with a highly advanced understanding of the plant and how to grow it, why wouldn't the noobs want to take advantage of that?

it's understandable that some of the OG Growers probably get a bit miffed answering the same stupid questions, but in my personal opinion no questions are stupid when someone is trying to learn about something. i didn't get through highschool/complete a degree by not asking questions, khaleel's idea for a forum for those questions is a great idea.

I grew up in a military family and went to schools all over the world. I never once saw a science class without a book. Students don't walk into class and pepper the teacher with chaotic questions. They start with a reading assignment and then discuss what they've read. Reading was the first thing we learned in school. Failure to do your reading assignments meant failing the class.

If you want to treat this place as a classroom, read your book. 99.44% of your questions are answered there. As an added bonus, you'll now be able to ask informed questions and understand the answers as well.
