5$ soil

After looking around the cheapest soil with good quality would be Kellog has worm castings, kelp meal,Bat Guano, chicken manure.Heres a link talking about it and if you scroll down you can see the bag. From reading all 3 pages it sounds well worth 5$ for bag of soil,I would spend extra money on other products to add to the soil to make sure there isn't def. in cal,mag all that stuff.Problem is it has 42 liters 4L=1gal and I plan on using 10gal Growbags each bag of soil fills 10.5gals, which is basicaly 1 bag of soil for 1 growbag.First I don't know if the store would have enough of this brand for me,2nd the price would add upp.Is there an another way of doing this?

I have nice soil in the mid-west but because of place im doing this at I need to use growbags.Wish i had the special hookup where i could organic soil for like free. Has anyone here tried this soil?

I've tried it and it's nice. Add 20-30% perlite.

If you're trying to keep it cheap and simple...

I suspect that where you're finding the Kellogg soils you might also find Epsoma brand fertilizers. If you can find it, add 1 cup of the Epsoma 5-3-3 dry fertilizer to each 10 gallon grow bag. It's about $5 per 5 lb bag, so you might need 2 bags for 12 10-gallon grow bags.

Update, 12 hours later...

Last night I was transplanting tomatoes and peppers to a bag of Kellogg potting soil I haven't bought this stuff for more than a year and this bag was disappointing. Instead of composted forest products, it's only partially composted... very woody. It's fine but would NOT be my first choice.

I knew I should have poked a finger through the plastic before buying, but I was trying to be a polite shopper.

goto your local nursery and geta truck load of compost for 20 bucks, it comes out to about 25 cents a bag, they just put a big ass scoop with the machine right in the back of your truck, then goto walmart and get some mushroom compoost and perilte. you will have enough for weed and vegeis and other stuff.im just a cheap bastard but i thought that might help.

Dignan-Epsoma brand fertilizers i'll check them out,you think that was just a bad bag?Reason I ask is you said you used it before and worked out nicely for you. Can't you add something into it to soften it up?

neep32-Did you not see my 2 links i posted?

bagseed77-Wish I had a truck for this but I would have to fill them in bags and then make multiply trips,i would have to use some big trash bags I got,
This sounds the best,*Would compost be good for grow bags-I found out, yes. Its Cheap and in large quanity,I'm going to go threw the yellow pages looking for a local nursery or anyone who would carry this.I need to do research on compost too,i know its basically receyled yardwaste soil.
Heres a good link I found about Compost
"Compost, in essence, is nature's own nutrient-rich slow-release fertilizer."
Just asking this isn't no slow-release fertilizer? This means its just enough food for the early stages?
Also it said "Mix with potting soil for container-grown plants " Can I use compost basically as my soil with other things mixed in it perlite, and other stuff.Compost sounds like the best, I can use it as my main base and mix in other stuff to improve it aswell,

It would probably benefit from being mixed 50/50 with quality compost. But quality compost is another thing that's hard to find at box stores. I have found 1 or 2 brands that are really nice, but don't just pick up any bag that has the word "compost" on the bag because manufacturers use that term VERY loosely.

Good compost should be fluffy and light. Not dry, not soggy. And you shouldn't be able to recognize any solids in it any longer, if it is truly composted. Compost should have a sweet smell, too. Earthy. But keep in mind that when you first crack open a bag of compost, even quality compost will have a sour/anaerobic smell for a day or so until it's exposed once again to ample oxygen.

If you can find Black Gold potting soils, I have always had excellent results with it.

These days I tend to use recycled soil 90% of the time... I'll use my container veggie soils from the previous year to start my veggies and cannabis plants indoors the next year. You run the risk of introducing mites, etc. to your garden, but I personally have never had a single infestation.
