What's new

My dollar store/ walmart setup. 30$

Well I've been building and rebuilding and finally put together a system that I'm both happy with and was really cheap. total parts 30$ the top's are 4 foam frisbies from the dollar store and the buckets are 4 extra large popcorn bucket's,gluegun, glue sticks, total there 10$. Off to wally world airstones, line splitters,25 ft of air hose, and a dual pump 20$

so I cut my top's to fit my netpots pot an air line through it,

made my air "thingy" and glued it to the bottom of the bucket's,

two bucket's run off the one pump( I had another one here same pump so i'm running two guess it's more like 40$)

so into the cab they go all hook up th there pump's and my babies are very happy about all there new air.

So that's my 30( I mean 40) dollar setup. so far so good here's a link to my prior( all about in a week) trials to get to this point.

Very resourseful, and a nice job putting it together. Change those stones after each crop, they are OK for short term use, but will give you issues if you try to get multiple crops out of them. I just use bare tubes and like that, but you are good to go, have fun.

Thanx Haps. I planed on changing them as needed there cheap!

Btw you could use one dual pump glue the stones down, use the splitters and keep it under 30!!! just a thought don't know if the one pump would give enough bubbles but I think it might work. So I guess it could be a 30$ cheapo system.

NICE! this is perfect for somebody like me who want to try a hand at hydro. keep them pics coming, lets see how the ladies like em.

will do swampdank. gonna post pic's tommorow then as things progress. Before the light's went out they were really perking up from the bubbles. I also am a newb so follow along and see what mistakes I make and what result's I get.

I had no luck glueing airlines or stones. Had much better luck with suction cups ... for a while. Now I put a nut on the line before I put on the airstone. The airstone keeps the nut on the line and the nut keeps the stone at the bottom where it belongs.

Way to go ghetto!

I thought about using nuts they seem perfect. If the glue let's loose that's my next step. thanx for stopping by freezerboy.

i have a question, do the netpots sit completely in the nute solution or just the bottoms of the pots touching the surface of the solution?
thanks,
peace

Depends on your roots. When they're new and still hiding inside the netpot, submerge the bottom 2 inches of the pot. When the roots are growing outside and below the pot, drop the level two inches below the pot. Roots need oxygen also. The two inch gap will keep them misted yet open to air.

Right now there in the water about an inch or so, as freezerboy said when the root's start poking out I'll drop the water level to an inch or so. Well gota got to work so I can tell a bunch of shit talker's off and probally get fired so I'll post some pics when I get back and after the light's come on, can't wait to see what happened over nite.

Peace out

P.s. Hey medi check out pipedreams 150 tiny bubbler system thread it's stickied you'd like the read the link is posted above.

Nice work man. I love DIY projects. Try using either fish tank silicone or "Gorilla Glue" to keep those stones down. I'll be watching this one for sure :joint:

Thanx Shady, I'm gonna use the gorilla glue or the nut suggestion if the glue loosens. I'm glad that people are liking this thread it's cheap easy and I hope fruitful when all is said and done.

Silicone was my first choice. Didn't last the night, though it could have something to do with the type of plastic used in the buckets. My glue gun was even less effective. Haven't tried Gorilla Glue but, many here report great success with it.

Yea, gorilla glue is excellent....many uses. You have to make sure the silcone youre using is for "below water applications". Your normal silicone isnt, thats why you need fish tank or aquarium grade silicone.

I use gorilla glue

It was aquarium silicone. I think the problem was my buckets weren't aquarium style acrylic.

Gorilla Glue seems to be the Anti Chris, everybody loves it.

Ok were two's days in and the lady's seem to enjoy there new home's!!!

Ms. baggy has been from the bag, into dirt, into straight perlite(first bucket attempt), in to hydroton, and finally this system(her 4th), she's a tough old bitch who's perked right up and shown great root growth over the past two day's

# nirvana pappya seedlings

Well there's the update more to come.

P.S. I would love other's if there building or have built something similar to jjoin in with there"cheapo" system.

Love the work. Do you happen to know how many gallons of water those popcorn buckets hold? That would work amazingly well for my mother plants.

Just a little over a gallon they are small and I was thinking of tryin to keep a mom the same way. on a shelf in front of a window or something.
