leMarcel those are some killer looks buds! I have been considering using a 400watt CHM in a cabinet build. Seeing CHM runs cooler than HPS and the light spectrum is more natural how can I say no  Has anyone measured how hot these bulbs actually run compared to HPS?

Measured? No. I have to say that the bulb throws heat in a unique way that I can't explain. Also, I can touch the tip of the bulb. The green part. It's nearly cold. :nono:

Overall, about the same heat as regular hps, imo.

damn son.... makes me wanna call up Philips and ask how much a pack is worth... Then just buy a pack and sell at wholesale for all you peeps in Canada.... Cause im still waiting for my 400W CMH. I called around and couldnt find anything in Canada, so i might be in buisness.

Root growth good but plant grows slow in veg w/ CMH?

Root growth good but plant grows slow in veg w/ CMH?

I don't know if it is me or the CMH but in veg the plants are slow although root growth is extreme. I have tied down my clones and that is helping promote shoots but wondered if it could be due to using the CMH. I'm growing in coco.

Also, I don't know if it is the new strains I'm growing or not but do you guys notice more leafy/less tight bud in flower than when using HPS?

my grow is 2 weeks away from harvest. the plants that were growing under the cmh bulb look considerably different than the ones grown under my other hps bulb. the nugs are not as dense and are not as big as the ones grown a few feet away from a 600 watt hps. i'm going to swap out the cmh for a super hps this next round. i'll continue using the cmh for veg, i don't have a mh ballast and i was very impressed with the vegging capabilities of the cmh. resin production looks exactly the same. any ideas why the nugs are much smaller and lighter under the cmh?

So you compared a 600W HPS a few feet away to a 400W CMH at what distance?

That comparison is not really fair because of the different wattages, obviously. I would like to think the nugs would be just as dense if not denser because of the spectrum?

What nutes?

I noticed more leafy growth with the CMH bulbs as opposed to the HPS...These bulbs are great for Vegging...i have (2) 400 watt CMH set ups and next time around I'm sticking with the HPS in flowering. My nugz were very tastey and potent...but didnt yield anything special.

Interesting. I hope light, fluffy nugs aren't the norm with a CMH during flowering. I just started flowering two plants under 400w CMH yesterday.

I will be flowering in a week or so and that post really scares me.

If nothing else it is easy to add some warm CFLs to a grow to supplement the red spectrum. Then again, that may not do a thing to help. :joint:

Vbp6us - i am using pbp bloom, lk, calmag, floralicious +, and heavyweight. every once in a while i use hydroguard. the plants are in ffof. the cmh bulb is about 6" away from my canopy. the 600 watt hps was about 3 feet away from the plant. this is just my experience, i've seen others have great results. i just wanted to add my 2 cents for future purchasers. again, i think that there is no more efficient or better veg bulb than the philips cmh. my plants took off like crazy the second the were moved under the 400 watter. next grow i'm going to strictly use the cmh for vegging and go with a hortilux super hps for flowering. the grows i see with the 400 watt super hps tend to yield a shitload and that's what i'm after :bandit: best of luck with your grow, i'll post results in a few months when my pure hps flower finishes.

ill post more indepth reply later tonight..

i have to say something in the enviro/genetics or food caused ur issue..
ya nug directly under a 600 will be bigger than cmh but the nugs on the end or not under arent as big.. with cmh u go closer to get those nugs and then use multi if going more than 400 total watt..

but comparing cmh to hps when not finished and side by side.. isnt fair..
wait till harvest..and avg total yeild hps vs cmh.
no way in world the hps can be as much THC>> vs CMH.. its fact..

MPL dont worrie take a look at lem pulled off soil grow.. YA!!
and many others

hehe I'm not worried. It's my first grow so I'll be happy if I have an ounce of fluffy nugs so long as they have some THC. :rasta:

As tight as the nodes are on my plants I don't see how the nugs wouldn't be superdense.

I see. I like the Eye Hortilux Blue line up as well.

I still think the CMH out does the Eye Hortilux Blue even.

An artificial light which reproduces a red-enhanced full spectrum is the “Ceramic Metal Halide” or “High Pressure Metal Halide”. This has more blue than a metal halide with a conventional quartz arc tube, and more red than an HPS, so it’s spectrum is optimum for all stages. The Ceramic Metal Halide (CMH) features a ceramic arc tube like an HPS, and uses an HPS magnetic ballast. Philips has recently come out with a horizontal version of this bulb, resulting in longer bulb life and 1000 lumens more compared to a vertical cmh bulb operating horizontally. Generally, horizontal works best.
