12/12 and LSTing...

Hey guys, my plants have seen 4 days of 12/12, and I was wondering if you can still LST if you don't start vegging. If not, I'm running a setup thats around allows for around 24 inches of grow room. Should I just not LST and continue 12/12? Is it too late to jump into a 24/0? If pics are needed, let me know.

Decent question...

Once you've started flowering, it's generally a bad idea to flip your plants back into veg lighting. It won't hurt your plant per se, but it will cause you a significant delay as it takes your flowering plant at least a week or three to revert it's hormones back to those of a vegetative plant.

As far as LST goes, most training begins while the plant is in it's infancy. I generally start training once the plant is about three or four nodes tall and continue to do so until the second week of flowering. By that point the plant has finished stretching (for the most part) and has begun focusing on bud production.

Training takes time to work properly and isn't usually successful if it's implemented too late in the game. By this point, I'd say forget the training for this grow, and simply flower your girls out as planned. You can give training a try the next time around, so you can start much earlier...

As long as I can get to the stems I train them.

When thats no longer possible, I just sit back and enjoy the weightgaining in the final stage of flowering :D

So yes, IMO you can train as long as you like.

Good point. It's also worth mentioning that once the stems have a little age on them, they'll snap instead of bending, so that's another reason to start while the plant is young...

I'm sorry I worded this wrong, but I started from seed 12/12, and I've only been in 4 days. I'm not sure if you could still LST if you started from seed at 12/12. This is my first grow, and my thread is here.

Thanks for the info panopticist, most of the info I used to get started was from reading through your info and responses!

The goal of a 12/12 from seed grow is to grow budsicles. LST allows you to grow a bushy plant during veg so that you have a much bigger canopy with lots more budsites to take advantage of the light.

So the simple answer to your question is you can bend and distort the budsicle to keep it within the grow space, but your not going to be building a bushy plant.

Hmmm, what would you recommend I do then? Should I just let them flower on their own? Or should I SCRoG them or whatever.

My opinion...Looking at the box you have, I would keep on your plan. Flower them out at 12/12, then reveg the best two yielders, clone them and LST or SCROG those clones so that they create a canopy that fills your box. Flower that to harvest, and then you will know which grow style best fits your space.

Basically you can have a bunch of low yield plants (SOG) or a couple of trained higher yielders. (SCROG/LST)

Good luck with your grow! :headbange

That's very strain dependant. If they strech and seem to grow fast, top them and/or LST them. Scrog in a 12/12 from seed grow is probably only needed on 12+ weeks flowering strains.

Here's a 6½ weeks old landrace Sativa from Ghana grown 12/12 from seed under 110W fluorescent lights - proving that topping, training and scrogging is a viable and maybe even neccesary way to grow 12/12 from seed :joint:

I'd say; dont flip flop regime on them. Stay on 12/12 and keep a good eye out for the grow pattern of your plants and train them accordingly.

It might be possible with a late-flowering sativa, but my HB girls finished stretching about a week or so after they showed sex. I might LST my next batch but I will veg them for about 30 days to get them to ~12". I would not recommend LST'ing them unless you know the strain will stretch a lot or are content to have a very short bush in there.
