If you don't want to fuck with hardcore chemicals (although I hear those strips work great), just make a fruit fly trap. I've them before in my kitchen and they worked better than expected.

There are tons of ways to make them (search google), but I just put some apple cider vinegar in a small glass, and put a small paper funnel in the mouth of the glass.

Fly's check in, but they can't check out.

fruit fly's r/u sure sounds more like fungus/soil gnats 1-2 inch perlite or green sand from local nursery or perlite helps to combat these. also maybe let the plants dry out more if your in soil temps in the correct range 75-85 r/h mid to high and the gnats come alive when soil stays moist. green sand or perlite stops the life cycle of the gnat larve are in most potting soil, larve mature climb to surface fly around as a gnat mate lay larve in soil and cycle repeates. 2 inch layer green sand or perlite stops the cycle sticky fly traps catch them misquito dunks also work good

The paper funnel trap works great. Last summer we had them all over the kitchen, so i tried a variety of different liquids at the bottom of the trap: vinegar, OJ, OJ with banana slices, red wine, etc. Red wine was the winner. After about a week no more fruit flies.

Fruit flies aren't that fast, so you ought to be able to catch one. Check to see if it has red eyes. If it does it's a fruit fly...other wise Maj. PotHead is probably right.

prevents reproduction. they only live for 24 hours or so. so every time you see them they are new ones. perlite at the top of the soil stops the cycle. try a batch of nematodes and ladybugs. they work great and no poison. just be careful with the perlite when you water cuz it floats.

you would add the green sand or perlite on top of soil these remedies prevent the gnat from entering soil to lay larve and for the larve in soil when they mature from escaping to continue the life cycle.

if you have a large infestion after the sand or perlite i would still use at very least fly catching strips i have broke out the pest strip. havent had to this yr yet lol.

My tip is simple and works .. get those yellow glue strips .. and place them near plants.. works fine.. also u can dry out the soil to makes things harder for them from time to time..
