Coco coir in Dutch pots AKA Bato buckets?

I have some old batos laying around, and want to use them with coir.

Has anyone experience with this?

Did you layer the bottom with hydroton?

Any problems with clogging or overwatering?

Please speak up!

I'm putting Coco in some Dutch Pots today...30 of them...not sure if the matting is needed, but may be a good idea...I'll run a bunch of R/O water through them and see what comes out...

My local hydro shop guy has a cool recipe for Coco that I'm following...I wanted to move to soil, but he recommended coco and I have been eyeing those dutch pots for quite some time....

I've used bato buckets before with coco and I would highly reccommend a lighter medium in the bottom for drainage. I've used coco chips with good results in bato's before. You can get away with feeding every other day in a setup like that.

Is the coco too dense for the resevoir syphon to work in the bottom of pot? Do you just fill that resevoir section with the chips?

I only put coco and added 10% Vermicrop soil ammendment in some of the pots...met the rep and was going to use just the Bio Stimulizer...he gave me a bag of the soil ammendment and said try a side by side comparison...so I have 1/2 of them with the soil ammendment and half without.

This is my first coco grow and my first use of dutch pots, so I will try the recommendations and appreciate any more experiences you had with that setup!

Are you still using it? If not what did you not like...

The coco has settled in pretty good...still a little bit in the run off but not much...hand watered first two days and setting up the drip...
