CFL security light?

link doesn't work, not quite sure what you're talking about, but from what I've seen in the way of cfl security lights it's easier and cheaper to just buy normal bulbs, sockets, and an extension cord.

http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs...Id=10053&productId=100049951&N=10000003+90086

It works when I click on it. stupid link. It a 65 watt home security light. I already ripped apart two 70 watt hps ones but my cabniet is small(2'x1.5'x7') roughly and even with the ballast's outside it still gets hot so I'm thinking about switching. They seem comparable to the cfl(grow) lights at the hydro store and a fraction of the cost(50 buck compared to 70 for the bulb an 70 for the fixture)

no way, big waste of your money. go to walmart or something comparable and buy an extension cord, some wire nuts, electrical tape, cfls, and sockets. the extension cord should be less than 10 dollars, the nuts and tape less than 5, and the bulbs a couple dollars each. just string up on the cord using the nuts and then cover them with the tape just to be safe.

someone once told me that 100 watts gives off the same heat, whether its, incandecent, hps, cfl, or whatever . i can neither confirm or deny that, but i can tell you that cfl's, in a small cabinet, DO generate significant heat . so going to cfl's is not, by itself, the answer; you need a fan to suck air out of that cabinet. what are you using now ?

and la resistance is right ... forget the hydro store. walmart/homedepot are your friends, grow-wise, at least.

That is way expensive if you're planning on using it for a grow light.

125W w/ reflector for $65: http://www.plantlightinghydroponics...-6400k-5500-lumens-cfl-grow-light-p-2201.html

125W w/o reflector for $50: http://www.plantlightinghydroponics...ase-compact-fluorescent-grow-lamp-p-2005.html

I've seen cheaper, but that's just what turned up from my 2 second google search. Or you could buy a few 26W from HD and spend 20-30$ total.

Also: http://www.1000bulbs.com/65-Watt-Compact-Fluorescents/ . 65W for $20 + shipping. They have screw-in self-ballasted fluorescent bulbs anywhere from 2-200W.

Thanks purple that was good info, Green, I have both and intake and outtake fan on the cabinet. They are 8 inch circular fans.

a pic would be good, even though you have some big ole fans in there, your air-flow may not be the best . what are temps with lights on ?

No problem. Turn the intake fan into a second exhaust, and use passive intakes. Ideally, you want 2x the area of passive intake vs. the area of your exhaust. This should drastically reduce your temps.

No way, incandescents produce a great deal more heat per lumen then a CFL....cause heat is a byproduct of their light production were as CFL just use gasses and put off very little heat...i took a class on electric and we learned all about this, plus from environmental research i did in college i know this to be true....either way you need a fan. Regarding the original question i think folks have you covered but just in case.....you can but a pre-made socket set if you do not feel like making it...try any hardware store it is for contractors to light up job sites etc. i got mine for 5.99 then buy the biggest baddest CFL you can find....try a specialty lighting store if you have one they have ones that are bigger then norm. i only use mine for veg so anything beyond that i don't know...but one 150 watt equivalent which is actually maybe 35 watts...keep my mothers very happy. you should have a fan for plants sake anyway no matter what you use....
