Deadwood (HBO series)

Anyone ever check out HBO's Deadwood? I freekin' love this show and it really pissed me off that they canceled it without a finale. Lets hear some of your favorite moments in the show....

one of my fav quotes:
Wild Bill Hickok: Does bosom mean tit?

Big fan here. All three seasons are great and i was upset as well that HBO wouldnt continue.

Favorite line.....when starr says...."ive been called worse by better"

Swearengen has some excellent one liners too :joint:

Never seen the show, but have been to the town many times. Neat little town, so is Lead (pronounced Leed) a mile away, home to the Homestake Goldmine.
At the Number 10 Saloon they have the chair Wild Bill got shot in on the wall. Not the original saloon though, that one burnt to the ground. He was holding Aces and 8s, dead man's hand, and that is a hell of a drink at the saloon. I believe they also have a stuffed, two headed cow in there somewhere.
Interesting note, some of the first brick buildings in Deadwood are still hanging around. Some of them were brothels (whorehouses) that were owned by a few of my relatives.
Oh, and the opium den tours in Deadwood are pretty cool, and no....no free samples.

Heres an interesting fact for you...the part of Al Swearengen was originally written for Ed O'Neil (of Al Bundy fame). Im glad Ian McShane got the part, but i wonder what it would have been like if he hadnt.

I had no idea that he was the one originally cast to do the part. Im not sure I would have been able to take him seriously after growing up around al bundy.

Do you think they really used words like 'fuck' as much as they did in the show? Rough language back then was referred to as 'blue language'...but im not sure 'fuck' came into the scene till the 1920s.

Great show for about 2 1/2 seasons... the end was terrible, and I know they were not renewed, but the direction the show was heading in was too predictable.

of course it was predictable...it was kinda following history, with some artistic license of course, but some of that shit really happened. I really wish they would make the 2 movies . If we all e-mailed HBO and said that we wanted the show back even after all this time...i wonder if they would get their heads out of their asses

Loved that show. Mr. Wu and Swearengen had some hilarious scenes, like the one about the theft of the opium. Swearengen could always understand perfectly what Mr. Wu was trying to say even though Mr. Wu only knew one word in English (cocksucker).

The scene with Wu and Johnny Burns deciphering the drawing comes to mind...

EDIT:
Id give you +1 rep if i could

Swearengen made the show for me. One my favorite characters ever portrayed on television. I realize the show was based on real events, I guess I was bummed on the show ending (As I watched them all on DVD), and knowing it was ending on that episode was a big let down. Some great dia/monologues in that show.

have you checked out the commentary and some of the special features on the DVDs? it gives some great insight into the casts' perspective.

Al was definitely my favorite character, followed closely bu Mr. Wu and Dan Dority (The fight between Dan and Capt. Turner was even better than the Bullock\Swearengen brawl)

Yeah,it sucked that HBO took it off the air right after two seasons, and right in the middle of a major plot point. They still play the reruns all the time and it was cancelled in 04 so maybe it'l come back some day.

Yup it was good. And yea i kinda miss it, hardly anything worth watching on the teli these days.. But no, it won't be back, ever. There was talk of a tv movie or two, but it won't happen. Ian McShane said so.

Oh and just to get some facts straight: It premiered 2004 and was cancelled 2006.

And altho it was a bad call imo from them to cancel it, without HBO, we wouldn't even have those 3 seasons.

Seems like HBO does this quite a bit with really good shows...look at Rome for example.

I really miss this show, they have been supposed to make a 2 hour movie on HBO to end it, but couldnt get everyone to come back. Thats the problem when you got so many characters. The dude that made Deadwood(Finch) made that garbage show John from Cincinatti

If you want to know how Deadwood ends just read a history book, still would of been nice to see itrelived on the show.

Ian McShane is singing a different tune now:

Rome was a little bizzare though!

Wish I had Showtime because I am missing Weed and The Tudors!
That Henry the 8th was one super bastard!
