New Grow 2008, need help upgrading!

L

Hello fellow growers/smokers! I am an amateur grower and only have experience in micro grows using fluorescent bulbs. With the new year I have decided to upgrade to a new room, a bedroom! :headbange ! I was wondering if anyone could make up a list of things I would need to pick up in order to start a bedroom grow. The room is 10' X 8' and is already painted white. I'm trying to fit up to, if not more than, 30 plants. I'm looking for any help I can get...ideas, lists, infortmation, sites to find products, ANYTHING to help my 2008 grow be as successful as possible. Thank you!!!! :rasta:

Hello lawnboy, what method do you intend to grow ie, large plants or sea of green. When you know this, then things will get easier.

Read through the Growroom and Grow Diary sections as well as those that deal with the type of grow you're interested in (soil/hydro/coco/organic) Your answer is in there somewhere.

DaveMR, YwouldntI: I am planning on growing the biggest plants that I can, yield is my main objective. I am trying to start a perpetual grow, that is, I will start from seed once. 30-40 feminized seeds with 8 different strains. I will take the best plant from each strain and make them mothers and then clone from then on. This rotation will be on a two week basis. That is, I will take cuttings every two weeks. As far as the room goes I will divide the room into two not necessarily even parts. One side will be the veg (which has a window on this side) and the other will be the flowering room (which also will have a window). I plan to make each window an intake (at the bottom of the window) and an exhaust (at the top of the window). The closet will be used as my mother room/clone area. I will vent the closet into another room. I think thats about it, anything I missed please let me know and I will get back to you asap. I hope this helps so that it makes everything easier.

FreezerBoy: I have done this in the past however a lot of things ar'nt clearly posted. I have been watching movies on youtube and other sites which has been helping me a lot.

Thank you all for stopping in and helping me out, I do appreciate it!

Ditto Stalldaworlds comments.

As to raising 30 of the Biggest plants you can you might consider the amount of lighting needed, air circulation, cooling, ventilation, and the needed space to accomplish that task.

Study this more before laying out the money. Any problem that might occur is going to be exponentially greater than your previous fluorescent Micro Grow experiences.

but non the less a lil research on these friendly forums will solve your problems...
if your trying to go big or go home def. consider vent/smell protection and have enough lighting

Please? Anyone?

That is a good size room. Have you done anything this big. I am assuming not, no worriess:
I would start with a sheet of plywood 4 x 8 feet
and add 2x6 around the outside side to build a box (catch the water) and then line it with a (rubber pond liner) or heavy Mil plastic.

Next you are going to need lights 3 x600w with nice hoods. You are looking at a cost of over a grand. Space them out equally over the sheet of plywood area. You are probably going to need some improvements to the electrical in that room, might be a big problem? most bedrooms not wired liked that.

Next sprout and veg a couple of different strains to about 1 foot tall. Move them into your Flower Room (new Bedroom Setup) and sex them. Once you get your females sexed, clone 24-48 clones and leave the rest in the flower room to mature. Once they are sexed I would transplant them into 3-5 gallon containers (remaining plants from seeds). (3 gal) would be my choice in that type of box 4x8. It will take about 10-18 days to get your clones working. Re pot and veg (clones) for a couple weeks in your 3 gallon containers, when they are about a foot tall move them into your flower room. (SOG) kinda

Repeat this as many times as you want and you might be happy. Do not fill the entire room 8 x 10; lights and power cost alone would cost you a fortune.

You will also need a Carbon filter and Exhaust Fan 800-1050 CFM to get rid of the smell and heat. Once you get that dialed in then add a second 4x8 box ( I would not recommend going that big this early in the game though.

I would leave your emails off this website....

Stalldaworld, Ty-Stik: Although it does seem like a lot, my flower area will be larger than my veg area for that reason. Also I chose strains/seeds based on their flowering times, so that they are all relatively close to the same flowering times. For lighting i'm leaning towards CMH. I'm thinking 3-4 400W CMH's should do the trick. To vent all of this I found a great deal online from High Tech Garden Supply. They have a 6" inline fan and carbon filter combo for only 215 bucks (US currency). I was gonna buy 2 of these combos to vent both veg and flower areas. Im not worried about cooling because where I live never gets hot, if anything I need the heat from the lights to keep it at 70-80 degrees F. If cooling becomes a problem (which it should'nt) then I will just purchase an air conditioner. For medium/additives I will be growing in coco and using Hesi products (SuperVit, Coco, PK 13/14, Root Complex).

YwouldntI: Everything and anything helps, I appreciate your input and I encourage more! Thanks again to not only you but all the others as well!

DaveMR: Yeah, sorry about that. I don't usually check my email anyways haha. I may have to start though, PM's for now though.

Thanks again all!
