Cutting at the base for a regen/rejuv/reveg

Hi there, I'm having doubts as to wether or not cutting a plant at the base is a good idea to regenerate it, has anyone done this before? What are the odds that it survives this providing that I start feeding it it's veg nutes and 24 hrs light? thanks everyone.

zero...

cannabis cant even get it done from a leaf....

the leaf will root but has no ability to generate a new growing tip......

You need to leave some plant mass-- a few leaves and a couple buds at the very bottom will be fine. Trim the root mass and re-pot it. Put it under 24/0 and keep the feedings light if at all until it starts to show new growth.

That's strange, I read it from here http://www.drugsforum.com/growfaq/37.htm

Hmm, that link doesn't seem to work but here's what it says:

"After the buds are harvested, you may realize just how much you want to perpetuate a plant you neglected to take cuttings from. Cut the main stalk down to the point where below several growth tips or buds are remaining. Return the plant to a vegetative fertilizer and photoperiod. Over the next several weeks, the plant will elongate and devlop new upward growth."

PurplePotion, so you're saying I should cut it like 3 or 4 inches above a few nodes at the bottom? thanks.

Link goes to WebHealth.com?

But no, you can't cut a plant off leaving no vegetation and have it reveg. Gotta leave some growth tips, which means bud, in the case of a reveg.

Hmm, okay, it seems like that will be one serious topping leaving just a few nodes before the bottom, thanks everyone. I'm going to try to root some stems from the buds too just in case ;)

NOt all revegged plants survive...

I have found that leaving as many leaves as possible will increase your odds to almost 100%

When I pick the plant I leave a number of large leaves to power photosynthysis while the plant recovers.....

once the lower stuff creates some decent leaves then the upper old leaves will be pruned off....

Wow Hooks, that's a big one, my whole plant is that big. I was thinking of cutting the big buds on the nodes in the bottom and leaving the tiny airy buds in the middle and bottom, cause each stem has like three bud sites on it, will this work? Hmm, I could leave alot on it if i did that on the whole plant just take the top buds on all the stems and the occasional middle ones (i'm using CFLS so I have alot of tiny buds that don't matter. Yeah, I think that's what I'm gonna do! :headbange :respect: :joint:

It sounds like a good plan...

The smaller airy buds with a few leaves should get you there.....

often I will cut the remaining buds.. for reveg.... in half.......

The picture is an actual live plant....

I will trim her up and remove the old crap in about another week or so....

In my case I was careful to remove everything at the top except for the leaves...

at the bottom were a few small buds.... that is where I planned the plant to regenerate.....

I have regenerated many times. You don't need to leave very much, just something. Sativas are quicker than indicas. New growth starts at the bottom, not the top. Sometimes, you will get bonus feminized pollen, again, sativas are more prone to this, but it will not always be fertile.

At last! Someone who actually knows what he's talking about. You want to cut it at least a little over the base and the plant will start to grow from places you didn't expect. I've actually had a plant (stalk is more accurate) which started creating a tiny tiny leaf at the bottom end of the stalk (like from nowhere) which later turned into growth -> stalk -> plant -> harvest ;) GL man! :joint:

nu4a - Shan Diego is saying you don't need to leave much growth, as in some tiny budsites. From the buds you left is where all the new growth will come from.

OK well I've never left a bud and I'm now revegging a plant for the second time. Just my 2 cents ;)

Hey all, I have a plant that I did take a cutting from but it was in an accident and didnt make it so I really want to reveg but the plant has been in the dark for the past 4 days. Going to repot it tonight and put it under some CFLs on 24/0. My question is that will it be affected for being in the dark for so long in a way that it might not reveg or take longer than usual?
