Hrm. No, you can't just use water!

Simple steps to run a successful DWC:
1. Get a pH test kit-- most places sell a GH starter kit with pH up(blue), pH down(orange), and a liquid pH test kit.. usually around $15-20.
2. You need Nutes! I'd recommend PureBlend Pro for someone who's beginning. As long as you at least follow the instructions on the bottle, you should have success. There are, also, many people who have posted their own formulas to use with PBP, but in the end, the plants need what they need. You'll get the hang of it.
3. Dump the old water, and change with new ph'd water and nutes at least once a week.

-pH should stay between 5.5-6.5, any lower or higher and you'll experience nutrient lockout (BADDD) .. I'd recommend checking it daily and changing it as necessary.
-pH your water AFTER adding nutes! (nutes will change your pH).

Other than that-- read the stickies on this site, and search around.

Good luck

Seriously---you need nutes. Try a 1-part if you need uber-simplicity. Or try lucas. Or anything else, but you need nutes or you'll kill your plant in a number of days.

You can do an entire grow with just tigerbloom in your res and a ph meter. Getting great results.
