I went to the Nathan's website for the first time tonight. I went to the Nathan's online shop just to check out what they had ..... but what blew me away was the PRICES !!!

Your shipping options (and this is simply interstate within the US - not overseas) are ...
$29.16 - UPS Ground
$87.31 - UPS 2nd day
$151.70 - UPS Next day

So if you order those hot dogs and want to eat them the next day you'll be paying $173.69!!!! And the CMEMORYEST you could get them for (with "UPS Ground" which would probably take at least 3 days) is $51.15 !!! And we're talking about hotdogs that you have to microwave/reheat, not even fresh ones !!!

Is it just me or are these shipping prices slightly inflated !?!??!!?!?!?

Are you sure?? The description is "2-Pack Nathan's 6" 1/4lb All Beef Skinless Hot Dog. Usually ships in 24 hours."
So from that description it just sounds like 2 x 6" hot dogs, but I guess you're saying that a 'pack' is 8 hotdogs, in which case 21.99 isn't tooooo bad. But still, the shipping price !?!?

but yea as someone who worked for the post office those prices do seem a little inflated for a 4 pound package but maybe they put in a bunch of bubblewrap and styrafoam or something.

They're frozen, maybe there's dry ice or something included in the package.

I love hotdogs.

If I didn't have to go to work today I'd go hang out downtown and get a hotdog from a corner vendor.

Here's the truth about Nathans Dogs.......

Here's the truth about Nathans Dogs.......

There are 3 Nathans restaurants in NYC area that still sell the original Nathan's hotdog. Yonkers, Oceanside, & Coney Island (the original Nathans). These 3 places still sell the 'Original Recipe All Beef Franks with Natural Casings' that are available on the site you mentioned Pheno. I lived less than a mile from the Yonkers restaurant & I know the Nathans Hot Dog packs in your grocers meats section IS NOT the Nathans dog you'd be served at any of the 3 NYC area joints.

I went to the Nathans Site & copied this picture. If you
want the real 'Coney Island' Nathans dog you need to buy
this item from the website.......
'Original Recipe All Beef Franks with Natural Casings' it comes as a 3 pack of six dogs each. Each dog weighs 2oz.

Next! You NEVER boil a Nathans dog, set your stove on
med/low heat and let that dog sit in a hot oiled skillet for
20-30 minutes, turn it often, it should be browned over
its entirety and splitting at the seams....... That is the
way they're cooked at a real Nathans, although they of
course use a huge flat griddle, no boiling, no steaming,
no hot dog rollers, just a greasey hot top dogs well done.

When I visit my family back east I go to the Yonkers Nathans
and I buy 2 or 3 of their restaurant packs (5lbs. = 40 hot dogs)
for .50 per dog/$20.00 per package. I stick them in an iced down
cooler & freeze most of them when I get back to Minnesota. I love
those fucking dogs.......
