A Seedling Serial Killers Serious Question

Just to start off, I AM A SERIAL KILLER!!! I have killed at least 50 seeds!!!! I NEED HELP!! PLEASE!!

I believe my problem is I have been starting seeds in pure FFOF. The first week they look great, then the yellowing comes, then the purpling petioles, then no growth and serious leaf burn. Total Death in 3 Weeks! The water I use is spring water that I p.h. at 6.5. I believe this to be the proper P.H. to use when watering plants. Anyway, I have purchased more seeds. 10 Heavy Duty Fruity,11 White Russian and received 5 freebie Original Skunky Haze all from our friends here at Seed Boutique. They are great by the way, super fast delivery and very discrete.

THE QUESTION(S)

I purchased a seedling mix made by Ferry & Morse.
Pure Canadian Sphagnum Peat Moss
Horticulture Grade Perlite
Composted Softwood Bark Finds with Lime for P.H.
#1 Is this a soiless mix?
#2 If so, do I need to lower P.H. of my water?
#3 Will this seedling mix let my plants live until they are old enough to transplant into FFOF?
#4 Do I need any supplemental nutrients in this mix?

Please help me not to kill any more seeds. I dont want to be a killer. Iwant to be a nurturer!! My sanity and wallet depend on it!

for seedlings all you need is wormcastings or compost and perlite maybe a little sand. they will be fine for at least 2 weeks with only water. then for the next two weeks castings/compost tea will support them until there ready for heavier nutrients. everything anyone else tells you is not needed until later. seedlings can grow on there own for about two weeks without nutes.

Thanks JK and BSS for the info, but I still would like to know If I could use what I bought, and what would be the best way of doing so. I really dont want to go out and spend more money on more things if you know what I mean. Im going broke here.

You can use the soil (FFOF) once the plants are seedlings - a couple of sets of leaves each at least. The older seedlings will be ok in FFOF, should in fact thrive in it.

As for the seed mix - the lime in it could damage plants. Try one, and see if it's ok. If that's ok try more. As for money, I know what it's like blowing the budget only to discover you haven't got everything you need... rough! You've come this far and you'll carry on from here. The money is an investment, and should give you one of the best returns you've ever seen.

I've done the same, I'm sure so many of us have and it's heartbreaking if it's good seed you aint got a lot of.

Oh - welcome to the forums.

oh ok i see how it is. what kind of dirt/soil do you have outside? you can easily amend it to a seedling mix just let me know. i figured if you went and bought that expensive fox farm soil you would have cash for the much cheaper wormcastings.

DIESELBOY - You're not growing in a Hydrohut or similar tent are you?

Sounds like the problems I had with batch after batch of seedlings in my poisonous tent.

Good luck!

Jk, let me explain the money situation. I bought 10 bags FFOF, FFGB,FFTB,FFBB,King Guano N, 100 gallon reversible Pro Filter(carbon filter) 8 inch vortex fan,1 millwuakee p.h, ppm,tds/ec meter,ph upper,ph downer,SoCal(calcium/magnesium)B-1 thrive alive,Grandmas black strap molasses,1digital thermomter, endless seed pots,1gallon pots and 5 gallon pots, 5 rolls of reflectix(50 dollars a roll)10 rolls of mylar,1 huge roll of Grodan reflective plastic, 3 1000k future brite ballasts,3 Valuebrite Shields,3 hortilux 1000k bulbs,1 eco 16 inch oscilating fan,100 rockwool cubes for clones, plus ruffly $600 in alluminum studs, insulation and drywall for my room. Not to mention a huge Holmes humidifior for my veg room. Add to that 2 bags Ferry & Morse seedling mix and the $700 dollars in seeds Ive slaughtered from seed boutique(they are great by the way). I should own stock in that company buy now! ha ha!
This is the only reason I am reluctant to go buy something else. If I have to I will but Jesus. Does the spending money ever end and the making money ever start. Mr. Bojangles, the only thing I didnt by was the grohut. Thank God!! Ha Ha!
Sorry about the rant.
Is it possible to use my seedling mix with some sort of soil just until i can transplant into the $25 dollar a bag soil I thought was the best(according to the hydro store clerk). I appreciate the help sincerely.

yea i must say FFOF is to hott for the babies.. they need to be at least 3-4 internodes and still then ive seen some strains get stunted in FFOF. Pro mix is good to start with imho... Or even the FF in the orange bag its similar to big bloom liquid.. Also want to say lees is more... aka as K.I.S.S and thats not saying that yer not... good luck i hope you get yer prob fixed and get to growing sounds like u have a nice setup.. If not can u buy me some seeds... peace..

wow thats a lot of stuff. seems like youll be fine for veg and flower, you just need a very simple and no nutrient mix for seedlings. they dont need any nutes just water for at least two weeks they have enough energy stored in them for that time, then you will very lightly fert with the lowest strength bottle of fox farm i dont know the line. and work your way up slowly as the plant gets older.

just like sackoweed said keep it simple.

I use Fox Farm Light Warrior for seedlings and still think it needs to be mixed well with some perlite and earth worm castings to make the mix more mild for them.

as your brother, i figured i would stop by and check on your post nice title there killer. i must admit this is my fault for his probs with the seeds croaking. i have been growing for 2 and a half yrs. i was workin on my favorite strain DREAMGODDESS M.O.D. seed company and was a little rusty on the seedling health care plan (since i have been using clones up until recently.) just stopping by to say whats up bro and well get it right this time. by the way after all those packs of seeds your gonna be a expert in seedling horticulture hahaha. :bashhead:  :rasta: :joint:

Slowster, Whats up bro. Just wanted everyone to know here that i went and bought some very mild soil and perlite at Wali-World. I mixed about 35% perlite per amount of soil. I looked for chunky perlite but didnt find any. I will check the hydro store next time I go. As for now 20 out of 26 seeds have popped and been planted. Wish me luck!! Thanks everyone for your input. It has been helpful. I will be starting a new thread in indoor grows/soil once the babies peek there heads above the soil. The thread will be called (On your mark....Get set....GROW!!!!) Hope to see you all there with your support, knowledge and encouragement. (even you slowster.) he he!

what soil did you decide to use? A soilless mix like you mentioned above would work great too. I like to use about 50/50 FFOF with FF Light Warrior (peat moss + perlite) for seedlings. Then transplant into some FFOF with ~20% perlite.
