Sealed Room Carbon Scrubber

I was originally thinking of using a carbon scrubber for the exhaust air from lights just in case some air got pulled in from the room. Instead ive decided a Uvonair inline unit would be preferable. My problem however is that I want as little as possible smell to ever escape in order to be super stealth, this includes on the few occasions I have to enter the grow room to do things like trim. I was wondering how you guys think a CAN150 w/ just a 12" high CFM inline attatched, simply scrubbing the air and immediately returning it to the room would work? 20' x 20' room btw. The fan would be on a light switch somewhere else in the house and would be turned on 15 minutes before opening the door and remain on until after leaving the room.

Is this completely pointless or would it work at least decently?

well. the way I got it setup, i have it as the intake for my outport fan.

You can set it up on the in or OUT end of your OUTGOING air. It will scrub from either side of the airflow. I personally keep the airflow going 24/7. I want my girls breathing fresh air all day all long.

It is important when using a scrubber from both sides to use a filter like on the can100's and others. That way the microscopic pores on the carbon don't get filled with junk. This filter cleans the bigger particles and then the carbon removes the smell. This filter is important to extend the life of the carbon and if used from the wrong end you won't have a filter. One will have to be put in. It does work both ways, but the outside filter says which way it should be used - placing a filter on the insode fix's this. Hope this made sense.

Gnarly - This is a sealed setup, there is no outgoing air.

TGT - It kinda makes sense, are you saying that the CAN100 and things of that nature have a filter already installed or that i need the air to go air filter>fan>scrubber. If that's the case it wont be a problem, the thing I'm most concerned about is whether this would have any effect or is just throwing money away.

SneakyNinja... the scrubbers do work how u mentioned using them... theres a vid from hydrotv where a Can-Fan rep explains using it in both a sealed and a vented room.. You should be good with the 150 and 12inch HO fan, i think the formula is something like length x width x height divded by CFM of the fan 20x20x6(not sure on ur height) divided by 970(cfm of ho 12inch fan) roughly 2.50minutes ... thats how long it will take the scrubber to fully exchange the air in your room...

i think the rep said anything below 4 minutes or 3 minutes is good

In a sealed cab how do u guys effectively clean the odors using ur scrubbers....Do u have intakes fans as well as exhaust or do just run one exhaust fan which sucks all the hot and smelly air thru the filter and out the cab? I have heard many say that intake fans dont create a negative pressure in sealed cabs and therefore the carbon scrubber doesnt work properly at exchanging the funky air......

A vaportek 4000 and 2 carbon scrubbers is what I use for my 4'x10' mother/clone room and my 14'x10' flowering room.
I am still always checking around the farm to see if I can detect anything.My girl always burns feminine ass candles to help but it only pisses me off.

Yes I heard of the vaportek working pretty well as a combo not as a standalone......

SN, You can just put the filter on the floor or hang it from the ceiling and attach the fan to it. It will just recycle the air in the room and keep it stink free.

As mentioned there was a video from the guys at can fan. Basically they said the filter will work if you PULL air through the filter or if you PUSH air through. Either way is fine. BUT it is setup for the fan to PULL air through or suck air. Thats why they come with a white clothlike filter on the outside. That prevents any crap from getting to the carbon. If you push through, you will need a prefilter before the carbon. You cut put it before the fan I guess but I would put it after so the prefilter is as close to the carbon as possible and nothing sneaks past it.

If thats the case I'll probably just go room>CAN150 scrubber>12" fan>room, probably gonna hang it so it sucks air from around the door area and blows it away. I'm not concerned about the noise it'll make just because if the grow site is secure enough at the time that i'm going in the room then it's secure enough to make some noise for 15 minutes.

you would want to run it 24/7, not just when you open the door. No matter how hard you try, that room is going to have a leak of some sort.

Depending on strain and how smelly it gets, I know a lot of people who run there carbon scrubbers on a timer 1hr on 1hr off. I would recommend something like that in your situation.
