Growing with saved stems?

I was thinking about grinding up stems and seeing if they would work as a grow medium like coco? I think you might have to use it as an additive. I save my seeds and stems to make hash anyway(from the buds I get). But the main stems and males don't have tric's on them so I'm thinking that this would be something to do with this weed trash besides throwing it in the woods.so I get a shit ton of stems grind them up then put them in water and then mash it up mash it up Jah mon.Would I just be making paper pulp? What do you guys think? :asskick:

I believe the stems would contribute very little nutritional value to your grow. Due to the fact that the stems need time to decay and break down in order to contribute to the soil in the form of humic matter.
One area that you might be interested in is stress. Stress has been said to cause an increase in trichome production of females (uv and crowding of females in close proximity) Using the stems as a mulch or trying to make a powder that can be sprayed on or watered on the plant may trick the plant into production of trichomes. this is just something I have been thinking of doing and would most likely apply half way through flower. just my opinion and not proven.

I mean like something to use to grow in like a soiless mix. Maybe the stems could be smashed into cubes or like jiffy pot forms. So stems will have stress hormones or when drying the stems stress? For mold you could put hydrogen proxoide in the water when you smash them together.

Why not just throw them in the compost pile with everything else. Just make sure to trim up so you can ID if you have an open air pile.

PooDoi say give it a try and go for it. my last crop i used teh main stems for so many things its rediciulous!!! i made a one hitter, blunt/spliff holder and a incense burner.

with the stems and stuff, i think much more is possible. i understand that we all use IC as major reference especially if your a newb, but the best inventions come from necessity!! give it a shot and YOU let US know (and not the other way around, blaze the trail!!!)

I'm not a newb ,but it's newb idea. That I will try. Blazing trail no no no walk in zig zags to the plot leave no trail haha.Give this a try I will Blazing stem trail. I have been at it for 8yrs now(growing). I say you get what you put in to it.I love when you are eye to eye with the top bud."I got stock sinse growing da backyard oy". Anyway I have a compost, two year ago I went and got a dump truck full o manure and dump it in my field. When I use it last year termites attacked me at harvest, they went in a water drain hole up the root to around soil level and like chop it down but I was only a week peme so.They were draw to the saw dust in the soil mix. They use saw dust in the stalls. This year the soil will be some black gold.

i doubt it will work well but if you want to try for the hell of it.

i would get some of the "stem medium" with no plants in it at all. and water it, see what happens. make sure its got drainage. let it try out and water again. after a few times youll know for sure if it will benefit, or mold.

i add them to the compost personally, as well as the leaves. best way to get rid of old evidence and feed your new plants at the same time.

What if you shred the stems. Into almost a flower? Although if I am not mistaken they need to be composted before being used as medium of any kind.

ok now that you mention the whole termite thing, that changes the game lil now doesnt it?
well i say go for it, because i have some stems just sitting around and all they are gonna do is turn into solid wood anyway. maybe use it as a mulch?

i guess the better question is, is there enough stems for it to make real difference anywhere in your garden?

i was considering using stems as a mulch. to control water evaporation from top layer of soil and as they break down they have to have what a plant needs right?
