Had a HH tent for months, in a box. Put up a 4 X 8 a few days ago (2) - healthy, but non-essential sacrificial lambs (4) of different strains put in, after 2 days of airing out the beast.

We shall see if I got lucky or not on the "lot" from which this one was made.

I have worked successfully with a 4 X 8 and a 4 X 4, purchased 3 years ago.

Unfortunately, I gave the old 4 X 8 away....

Will report with pictures.

The very night of my previous post, I see some yellowing, at the juncture of the new growth, just like the ones pictured.... Sh*t.....

Unless I am seeing an effect of plants going into 12/12, as I flipped 'em when I put 'em in the HH, I have a bad tent. The Purple Erkle looks OK, so far, the other 3, a Big Buddah Cheese Mom (admittedly weak), and 2 C99 X Bubba Kushes, showing the yellowing....

Will return with pix tomorrow. One way or another. Day 2-3 in the hut, and here we are...

I have had the issue with my HH mini since I did my first grow in it. I have contacted the company - International Growers Supply. According to the dialog I have had with them they say they have figured out the problem. They did not say what exactly it was. Anyways, I'm waiting now for my replacement as well as all the other people who have contacted them about the problems.

Here it is as I read it and weep. The HH is junk.

Ran the old huts no prob. Years ago. Still have an old 4 x 4..

So, the pix, on day 4 or 5 who cares. Pulled 'em out, and extinguished the light. The Purple Erkle was much less affected. Deep Green indica, takes longer. The below 2 and other clone is too precious not to throw into the grow room, since I started ;em on 12/12....

Oh welll, do I call Int'l Growers supply....?

Sorry, I am not comfortable saying where I got it, too much info to put online.

Piece.

Have you tried the potassium bicarbonate(green cure, or another product with same ingrediant) yet? seems to have worked great for tricknology.

My contention is that even if I was able to 'clean' the HH to the extent that the yellowing did not occur, there will still be a certain amount of ppm;s of whatever is causing this.

Maybe not enough of whtever poison does it, will be in the tent, to cause the bleaching, but I believe the tent is not healthy for any form of life. Even if I 'clean' it.

So, either I return it for a new, better one, or I retire it, and write it off. Use the room I already have, only.

Buyer beware. 500 plus dollars later.

Damn.... That sucks... Does it happen with certain size or models?... Or is it every damn one of them?

Seems to be luck of the draw. People that have gotten bad ones will swear up and down that every model made since june or july is bad. I bought mine in january from a brick and mortar store, heres my clones after almost 2 weeks in the hut:

Didn't do any cleaning at all, just set it up, vented for about a week while getting plants in order, and poped em in.

Hey Funk how long ago did you contact Hydrohut and how long did it take them to reply? I am having the same issue and have contacted them about it but it has been about a week with no response. I'm a long time reader, first time poster but I've been scouring the forums about this ordeal.

I am a former hydrohut owner. My retailer was very cool about the whole thing, but she told me hydrofarm is disouraging her from telling people about it. Hydrofarm will exchange these for their "habitat" model. Push the issue.

After 8 months of wasting nutes and losing medicine my opinion is the only way to stop the HH syndrome is take it back to your distributor. HH themselves have said they do not know the cause yet they are still selling them without testing first, nor are they telling shops about the issue. I have talked to the shop in my area and they are doing thier own tests but have yet to find the cause but they have stopped carrying the HH. I have recently gotten my money back and removed any HH material from my grow and everything is back on track. I know there could be an answer/solution but why gamble with your health when the people making it cant tell you the problem. Sorry for the anger but it seems like this company could have tested a product they know is being used to grow foods and other things consumed by humans, and once it came to thier attention at least letting shops know so people werent baffled by the new problems. Good luck- I hope no one goes thru what i did (7 months of death).

Peace

If anything, this whole HH issue feels like industrial espionage. The best reasoning i've seen on these boards for the problem with the huts is the vinyl off-gassing chlorine. This is not due to the vinyl, but due to an improper cure on the vinyl used. With other brands(major companies, who do 100's of M a year in business like hydrofarm) trying to break into the hydrohut business. The owner of hydrohut has already stated that the different brand huts are made from the same material. Made from a japanese built machine in china. From there 1000' rolls are likely shipped to another factory where the sewing is done. How hard is it to imagine hydrofarm, or another competitor, paid off the factory in china to skip half the cure on a few thousand feet of vinyl they were shipping off to HH's assembly factory.

We all know this same material when sold a year ago wasn't having problems. We also know the exact same material, made at roughly the same time, but sold by another manufacturer, is also having no problems. Just makes me wonder how evil this business is.

A HH representative replied to my email yesterday and advised that they are finally on top of the issue and he will be sending a UPS tag to have only the cover shipped back to them. At that point there are going to do something to the cover(did not give any details about what exactly, whether cleaning it or something) and then ship it back to me. This is all I know at this point so it seems that they have identified it as the vinyl and not the poles.

Recieved this via email this morning 2/7/08:

"Open Letter from HydroHut to the public

In the last several months, HydroHut has been made aware of and pursued a problem with some of its Huts causing a peculiar plant yellowing leading to plant whitening in certain, sensitive plants. While the issue did not arise in all plants, or all Huts, the existence of a problem was not conducive to our product's mission.

After several months of extensive testing, false positives and much interaction with the public regarding this matter, we have found an EPA approved compound that isn't stable in our plastic and that causes extreme stress to certain sensitive plants. In the future, this compound will be removed during manufacture.

Our focus has been directed at how to remove this compound from the plastic and to do so in a way that we could retroactively repair any HydroHut already in the field. As of February 2008, HydroHut will be repairing any affected HydroHuts at its facility. The exact process by which we repair the HydroHuts is extensive and proprietary and it will be carried out by a trained staff at our locations.

We fully understand that this situation with our product has adversely affected many clients. For this reason, we are standing behind our product and are offering anyone who has been affected a way to have his/her HydroHut repaired free of charge.

Any client, be they end user or store, can arrange to have his HydroHut shipped back to our Los Angeles facility for processing, free of charge. The HydroHut will then be shipped back to the client free of charge.

All inquiries for HydroHut processing should be directed to [email protected] with no exceptions.

Please provide the following details in the email:

1) Size/model of affected HydroHut

2) Number of affected HydroHuts (only the HydroHut brand will be accepted for processing)

3) Address where the HydroHut can be picked up by UPS call tag (make sure someone is there to meet the UPS driver) Do not use a PO box as UPS will not pick up from a PO box

4) A name to whom/which we can address the package going back to you, the client. (We will make a good faith attempt at getting your product back to you. If nobody is at the address to accept the package three times, the package will be sent back to Los Angeles. Any further attempts to get the package to the client will be paid for by client.)

5) Please remove your HydroHut canvas or skin and box it up. Do not pack up your poles or hardware. Do not remove your frame. Do not attempt to ship us your frame or other items. We will only be call tagging the canvas in a box. You must provide that box and properly seal that box. We will send you a call tag for a specific weight based on the email you send to us with your HydroHut details. Again, we will only be taking back your canvas for processing; no other parts or hardware will be accepted. Leave your frame set up and intact.

6) We will make every effort to process and reship your HydroHut canvas within two weeks. This is not a guarantee but it is our goal. Please note that ground shipments across the USA can take up to 8 days! Even if we process your HydroHut in only one day, there could still be 16 days of ground shipping, 8 days coming to us and 8 days going back. Be patient. Most clients will not have to wait two weeks. Every attempt will be made to expedite each HydroHut.

7) If a store has new HydroHut, still in its original box, the canvas can be re-boxed in a separate box, and the canvas will be returned to the store new and folded, ready to put back into the original box. Please keep your original box at your store including all poles, hardware, and instructions. Do not send us the entire unit.

While this entire exercise may be time consuming, HydroHut is doing all that it can to rectify this problem as quickly as possible. We apologize to everyone for the difficulties incurred with our product, end-users and stores. Without a loyal standing of clients we would be nothing. It is our goal make this situation as right as we can. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us through this difficult period."
