Taking a break from the DWC for a little soil venture.

Left to right are one NL, then BB, BB.

These were moms that were cut way back, LST'd for height and put under a wide grid SCROG.

Hello Dirtybudz

Your grow looks very very nice. Do you have any pics of your lst? Im planning on trying out lst myself before scrog. And your plants looks like mine in my dreams :rasta:

Happy growing/smoking

Thanks for all the wonderful comments. Cultivation is an adaptive and ongoing learning process and I wouldn't be where I'm at today if it weren't for IC, and I still love to learn and experiment!

To start off I'll answer those Q's:

400w HPS (standard..I know :bashhead: but it works)
Medium is standard BC Promix with Michoryzae with added Verm/Perl. When I mix, I wet with water amended with BTI to head off any contamination issues from the shop. (I HATE gnats).

The moms got transplanted into the large pots you see, probably 12"+.

I drill tiny holes along the top edge in many places to attach wires for the lst.

Once they are how I like I pop em under the screen. I'm still REALLY new to this technique so I have a lot to learn.
Any way here we are at 5 wks, what a difference two weeks makes!!

They are eating two tsp of FN bloom pH'd up to ~6-6.5 and each get about a gallon and a quarter once a week.

Out to 7wks 12/12, flowers have only tightened up with out adding much outward size. Rough soil checks have the pH around 6.2-6.5.

All of the pruning to keep the once moms in check caused MUCH branching and many different tops.

The problem being that space was quickly overgrown and this strain of BB which I had yet to flower does not stretch much in flower.

The result is what you see. Nice tight nugs up top, but no monsters as energy is being spent all over the place. Not to mention the under canopy growth which I did not prune. I always seem to hold out hoping that for some freak reason I will get them to fatten as well. Next time I will thin all that crap out.

The NL on the left is as previous in DWC, heirloom nugs not a big yielder, but classic quality all the way.

Those plants look amazing. Aren't you supposed to hav your bulb parallel to short side of your cab to use it best? Doesn't seem to be hurting too much :)

I garden in similar space and had trouble orienting my 400W parallel to the short side and keeping it cooled inline due to lack of depth. Is this perhaps the reason for your bulb orientation?

Keep up the amazing grow. Buds look awesome!

Thanks peeps, I have alot to learn still.

I have read about the bulb orientation, and for my cabinet it doesn't seem to have much merit.

Reasoning:

1, you're right, I don't have the depth, only eighteen, too tight for air cooled, 6" duct.

2. If you're cab isn't wider than 4 foot as is mine, you are not really gaining anything with orientation. Think about it, a 4' x 4' square foot print, an ideal 400w grow space, what difference would it make which way the bulb is?
So with a 18-24" cab depth, it's like cutting that foot print in half.

And actually, my plants on either side get less "cooked" during hot periods and stay more healthy and less dried out.
One thing I will be changing is back to white walls vs. the mylar.

I would like to increase my space, not for more plants, but for more room for the two to three in the cab. Ultimately that would make for a better yield anyway by allowing more light penetration and air space.

Bulb: I use a a standard 400w HPS. My first came busted so I have a hard time eating $90 online, plus I don't order online anymore. I have a local shoppe, so one day I will upgrade, but I think I have more horticultural skills to master than just swapping lights and thinking it will make all the diff.

Honestly, my first SCROG w/ LST, I am happy, but could have done better with 2 plants instead of 3.

Pics of the chop to follow soon....

Very nice looking grow !

Dirtybudz, do you mind telling me the dimensions of your cabinet ? It doesn't look that tall, and I'm just curious, since you're running a 400 watt in there. Do you have any heat issues with the 400 in that cabinet ? What sort of exhaust are you running ?

:joint:

Thats awesome man crazy buds, the guy at the seedbank said northern lights gets big, but shit them buds are huge. And with a pint of blueberry you should be floating. Nice work man :lurk:

CHOP TIME!

CHOP TIME!

Here's the Northern Lights (tops only). I have to say to MrSkunster, they really aren't as big as they look. These would be well suited to some more real estate and better pruning, but deliciously resinous anyway. Last grow two medium plants in DWC yielded two gum ball size balls of tumbled heads.

These are just the tops of the Blueberry, actually both the blueberry and northern lights are still in the cab at 9 weeks. I hoping the under story will fatten a tad for additional yield or hash making. Shots to follow later.

The cuttings that were supposed to be in the cab this go round finally rooted and have well out grown their mini cab and are now trees in DWC. Also more pics to follow later. looks like another DWC grow in the making! Blueberry is definitely a yielder.

greenhead, cab is ~18" deep by 48" wide by 6.5' high
venting with a SUPER quite 70cfm bath fan.

Yes, during the warmer months, heat is definitely an issue, something I would like to solve by increasing the breathing room around the gals. In hind site, I would have configured the fan to draw from the side to give more room for the light hood.

Again, still learning, still growing!

amazing looking budz! I grow in a really small space (old school metal storage closet) and i made a homemade aircooled hood with a couple of small fans as well. its roughly 85 in there and about 25% humidity...I need to utilize the screen method as you have... I already lst but i think the screen method along with the lst would work better...

My canopy temps are high as well once girls are within 18" of the lamp, despite the air cooled hood. My humidity will range from 35% to 50% inside measured above the lamp, and ambient is kept at ~55%(no choice). I have heard 89 isn't bad, but I have personally found for my phenos that the cooler the better, say 75-80 and keep it humid during flower 40-50 as much as possible. This can be really difficult in a small cab unless you have put a lot of energy into setting up a cool humidifier and AC on a timer during lighting(warm) periods. i also use a small PC fan below the canopy and this does wonders for circulation, but again lowers humidity.

I really enjoy seeing what people can do with tiny spaces like those PC grows. That goes to show you you can really trick the plant to do anything under the right conditions.
