Only you can really answer that, vindiesel. One thought is do a single strain. Especially since it's your first grow. 2 strains could be 2 feeding schedules. Etc. Another thought is variety is the spice of life. How confident are you? You got a bunch of posts for a first timer (not knocking ya or implying squat)have you been reading and asking questions? If so, let it rip. I'd go with KISS idea and get the bugs worked out. Take clones and take it from there. But it's really up to you, man.

growing from fem seed in such a small space.... i would try lst.. the plants would be eaiser to work with!

It's a trip, huh?

It's a trip, huh?

I'm on my first grow, too, and it's been kinda challenging to try and get everything to work out.

What kind of cab are you using? I have a Suncast base utility cabinet that I thought would be the tits from start to finish, but now see that it has TONS of light leaking. That's not a problem right now as they're just seedlings and it's in a dark part of my basement, but it def won't do when I want to put them in flower!

My heart goes out to ya.....I'll check in from time to time to see how yours goes....good luck and keep us posted!

-Doing one strain is a lot simpler.
-Doing multiple strains helps u learn faster... Because u tend to hav more problems to solve lol.
-Either way is good, but if u dnt hav a lot of free time on ur hands to fix problems with ur plants/set-up, then I'd do one strain.

My first grow I did 5 strains and it went well, but I did hav a few problems with some of the more sensitive strains as I was giving them the same nutes, water etc, as the stronger strains (in a big cabinet tho 2m x 1.2m x 1.2m)

Good Luck!

go with 1 strain -2 strains- different chopping time-different canopy lvls-plant heights

ur lightning seems too limited for me, if ur using feminized grow only 1 plant, lst it and scrog it, 2 on absolute maximum.
use the biggest pot possible(not from start but in the end, do 2 transplants-they soil will be used better thsn the plant) give it at least 1 month vegetaitve before u flower.

aim for a scrog halfpipe if u can do it, other wise a flat scrog canopy, flatness is veeeeeer important in scrog

hope u get what i want to say :)

^ Greek guy made some really good points there. The point about the halfpipe scrog is exactly what increases light absorbtion. They call it the Half-pipe of green (hog), also very similar to a stadium grow.

never heard of a half pipe scrog and 2 b honest have no F'n clue what that is...lol. i'll have to research that. i have time since i don't plan on starting to beginning of march.

greekguy, lighting to limited...? it's only 12 cubic foot. i'll have 150HPS and probably 20W CFL in all 4 corners...

view2athrill, i have same cab, will b lightproofing this week. just silicon all cracks and use rubber or coroplast flaps. u should b fine.

yeah i guess 1 strain would b better for 1st time...

That's funny...when you gave your cab size, I wondered if we had the same one!
Anyway, I think I'll just use that as a seedling/beginning-veg box. (have you noticed how much light leaks out of the top of that thing? I didn't mylar the inside of the top though. Did you?)

Are you gonna try to do the whole grow in there? (I originally hoped to do that, but also have a tall, metal wardrobe-type thing I'll use for stretch and flower....not as many light-leaks and easier to fix the ones it does have. Plus, I'll probably use a HPS, 250w(?) and worry the heat would melt the Suncast.)

In the meantime, I've got a 2', 4-bulb New Wave T5 over the babies.....I love floros for their low heat output, but wonder if this one is really doin' it for the seedlings. I've read they're great for this stage and I'm probably just being impatient! :bashhead:

What light will you use in your cab? Number of plants?

It's so cool we have this forum to share stuff with growers....now we just need to get an "Americannabis Cup" going over here!! (yeah, I know.....there's smaller celebrations in places like N.Cal, Oregon, WA state....)

i actually in past hour have decided to buy a small grow tent instead...i'll just use the suncast cab i have for actual storage...i also today have decided on not using my 150W HPS w/ CFL and will now use just 1 250W HPS without CFL...
...and yes IC is great. i love it more than i did OG. i've been lurking here for some time. was set to start in 2005 but had a baby, etc, etc, nannies, etc, etc, alot of family. well now he's older and not many people around i got the bug about 2 months ago REAL bad, and i'm def gonna now. funny too, got more motivated after i stopped burnin..last time was xmas. needed a break. not gonna until i grow my own....i hadn't takien a break other than MAYBE a day every month or so, for past 8 years.

beware the grow tents!!

beware the grow tents!!

I've heard some pretty negative stuff about them here. Search the threads for info. It sounded like the earlier ones were ok, but then people had problems with weird stuff happening to their plants, maybe due to out-gassing from the vinyl or another component in the new ones.

They do look really cool and I was tempted to get one myself, then my local grow shop stopped carrying them. Haven't been back there since I learned there may be problems with them, but I'll definitely ask next time I'm in.

I got the grow bug pretty bad myself and it's the same for me: usually regret smoking whatever I get my hands on now.....what's in the stuff? how was it grown? etc. I was going to wait until I harvest my own, but sometimes..... :muahaha:

I'm really looking forward to being able to go into the chat rooms.....I love the immediacy of being able to connect with other growers. If we can't all meet in person, I guess it's the next best thing!

Congrats on the baby! Mine's 13 and a whole other set of issues, but it's worth it.....are you the mom or dad?(I'm the mom, fyi) just curious....is your other half ok with growing, etc? You don't have to answer any of this, just me being curious.

Definitely keep posting....I'm new to this growing stuff myself and it's always a morale boast to hear about other newbie's experiences. Some of these other growers are positively intimidating, they're soooooooo knowledgeable and experienced at it!

Well, I know we all have to start somewhere! :D

Yip yip, it's great to see some new grows being so enthuseastic (how is that spelt!!!) ... And please ignore the a**holes u occasionally come across on here, soe of them are jst people who had a bad day or said something that wasn't supposed to b offensive bt accidenty made it sound offensive, if ya no wat i mean lol ... Bt there's the occasional a**hole who jst has nothing better to do... Ignore these people and do NOT let anything they say de-motivate u!

Hope ur grows go well, and it sounds like ur learning a lot which is great!

And if ur plants hav any problems, check this out: (Its worth saving the link! http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=11688

Good luck with your first grow.... If you are going grow tent.. maybe make your own and make it out of material you know will be okay. You hate to put work into it and have it go sideways. I too, have heard, some negatives about the tents. Keep us posted.

It was only the Deluxe Hydrohyt, the smaller ones don't have the same problem (from what I've researched).

The reason to pick one strain over two would be, as was said, to keep the same feeding schedule and light height in your room. However, both those strains you listed are going to be mostly Indica, and I think if you flower them under a foot tall their heights should be manageable.

Good luck with your gorw :D
