Good luck....thanx for lettin me know i,m not alone..I quit drinkin, quit herb for a few months now, backed off the pills a lot,and got rid of neg.ppl. in my life.Life ain,t great yet ..but it,s gettin better every day.....

"thcbound", that's helpful advice, but I want to point out that the concept of treating a chemical imbalance with SSRI's is just one point of view in the medical establishment, and one loudly expounded by pharmaceutical companies.
WHAT THEY DON'T TELL YOU IS: sunlight, exercise, and a good diet can do a lot toward improving your mood and health.

I understand what you're saying, and believe me, I am NOT one to advocate for the Pharma industry. All I'm saying is that this particular drug has worked wonders for me and others in my family. My family has a history of depression and believe me if it wasn't for the miracle turnaround I saw in my mother when she went on this medication I would have never considered it for myself. It's not like I feel "medicated", I don't get "high" or anything like that on Celexa. The difference is that the small things that used to bother me and hinder my appreciation for life... have been lifted from my shoulders. I no longer wake up in the morning thinking "I have to go to work, life sucks"... etc. I no longer have panic attacks. Taking this little pill every day has helped me personally, and I'm not saying that it will help everyone. Considering my family history and the impact it had on my mom, my doctor felt I should take it and it has helped me to erase much of the constant pessimism that I used to feel.

If you're depressed talk to your doctor about taking a SSRI like Celexa. I've been on it for a few years and I am much better off because of it. I have never been addicted to cigs but I did have a drinking problem at one time and the Celexa really helped me kick the booze among other things. Again you will have to talk to your doctor but if you're depressed it could be a simple chemical imbalance in your brain that is treatable. I was skeptical at first but I gave it a shot and I'm glad I did.
Are you still on it? Did you just take it until you stopped drinking or what?

Whenever I get an inappropriate craving (cigg, buds, whatever) sometimes it helps to just breath deeply and try to concentrate hard on my breathe entering and leaving my lungs. I do this for a while and the cravings go away for a bit, until I can find something else to do usually. I know this may only help me, but I hope it helps you some too, sounds like hell, man.

Exercise my friend, like everyone has stated before me, is easily the best medicine. Whether this is a walk in the park, a heavy weightlifting session, or some sparring/wrestling/fighting (constructive of course) it'll do ya good. I have a very thick bloodline of addictive personalities in my family and I make damn sure to try and keep any vices, whether legal (cigs, booze, dxm, pills etc.) or illicit (weed, shrooms) closely monitored and under control. As dumb and stupid as it sounds another great way to dispense your mind and body of negative emotions is to write, and write a lot. Shit, write when your high and/or drunk too, keep a journal, you'll be amazed at the things that come out when the mind is compressed/stressed/bent outta shape. Just my 2 cents

i just think simplicity is best... everything from taoism to nutrition bears this out. for example, sugar's natural, and the worse it's going to do it spike your blood sugar. cyclamate, an artificial sugar substitute 50x sweeter than sugar, causes cancer. pick your poisons: i smoke herb and my lungs don't like that, but i exercise, so they can't complain so much. cigarettes beat the shit out of my lungs, and they don't do anything good for me- the only reason i'd want more of them is if i'm addicted. every now and then i go completely drug-free (weed, alcohol, caffeine, even sugar if i'm feeling like a fanatical hippie) for a week or two: feels terrible for a few days, but i feel incredible afterwards, and it shows me that these drugs have no hold over me.

lift weights instead

Or run, like iluvtomatoes said. Or do both, alternating days. You'll get addicted to the adrenaline rush you get from a good workout. Trust me. And it'll keep you healthy...
