Hey Guys,

My cab is 4 feet wide, 1.5 feet deep, and 6.5 feet tall. that being said, i went to my local hydro shop to pickup a 6inch cool tube and a 600w hps kit. just my luck the moron at the hydro shop gave me a 1000w ballast instead of the 600. Can i run a 600w bulb in a 1000w ballast? (im pretty sure i cant but i wanna make sure)

Also, could i run a 1kw hps in a cab thats 4x1.5x6.5 without crazy heat problems? as far as venting i have a 180cfm fan sucking through the cool tube and out the cab and i have 2 vents right next to the window with outside temps in the mid 50's

i'm in soil planning on doing a 36 plant sog in 1 gallon grow bags.

hum... you shouldnt have a problem with a 1000watter in that size of space, iv seen threads where people have done 1000watters in even smaller areas then that..

when you say 6in cool tube.. is that diameter or lenght? Doesnt really matter really just asking but..

this is what i would do if i was you.. Id stop by HomeDePOT and go to the Ducting section and find the 6" 250cfm inline fan... would do much better to fully assure your temps will be safe and good :p

Always best to over do the venting then under doing it :p

Hey Military,

Thanks for the info! The cool tube is 6 inch diameter and i think 23 inches long.

All i really wanna do is figure out how i can get off the cheapest.

I can go swap out the 1000w ballast for the 600 and be set. or i could buy/possibly exchange the 600w bulb i have for a 1000, and upgrade the fan i guess.

i figure i got about 40 cubic feet. of air in the cab and at 180 cfm the airs switching out ever 5 min or so. (if you go by the math it should be ever 30 seconds, but i think with all the ducting and negative pressure and it having to push out of a scrubber the CFM's go down.)

what to do what to do....

1000 watter in that small cab would create such a heat problem...

anyways, you need a 600w ballast for a 600w bulb, and a 1kw bulb for a 1kw ballast

i would go back and get the 600wballast for sure...

Thanks for your imput LilWaynE i was afraid it would be too much for such a small space. i wanna be able to keep the lights right on top of the plants (6-8 inches away) rather than the 12-15 thats gonna be necessary with the 1000w.

anyone else have expirence with 1000w in small spaces?

Yup, way too much heat for that space. I'm having heat problems with a 1000 watt in a 4X5 area, with 8 foot ceiling.
