Any one know cheap alternative to clay rock pellets? doing 4X8 see of green and total came to over $1000!!!

That price is way off for enough for a 4x8 tray. You either looked at the wrong stuff or miscalculated. Check again or try a different source.

in see of green wont my pots be right next to each other i did my calculating by 4x8x1=32 cubic feet= 906 liter / 50 liter bags = 18 bag total x $50 bag = 900

if clay rock u mean hydroton man your number are way off... lets say your doing a a 4x8 table useing 1 gallon squarepots i would say 2 maybe 3 big bags of hydroton should do it i would think.
as for pots to be right next ot eachother that all depends on your strain and veg time...if you got a real streatchy strain the pots arent gonna be not right next to each other... ive seen 4x8 run with anywhere from 36-60 buckets on a 4x8 but it all depends on on size of buckets and strain and veg time...remember more doesnt always mean better. And hydroton is cheapest. for rockwool a box cost like 240$ and that doesnt cont the 1" thats just the 4's and they are not reusable and you have to get rid of the shit and the go rebuy it all and start over..
Hydroton is cheapest i think lava is best for bennies and shit like that but im sure that that wasnt reusable never used it yet though...

wow shana got the lava for 5 dollar a bag lol thats hella lot cheaper then hydroton... but i stil love the shit... haha good luck

You probably wont need 5 bags either. The pots are narrower at the bottom so there is some space that doesnt get rocks. Plus you really arent going even 6" high. 3-4 bags and you are good.
I am using 5.5" netpots right next to each other for a SOG with no veg time.

hey man i dont know if you ran SOG before but a month veg is alot lol do what you do but sog is usually a bunch of small plants but it is possible to run it with a decent veg time.
I'd think that those numbers are way off. As for sea of green, I'm with blunt. I use a 2'x4' setup in aero with 32 plants in 4" pots. I don't even use 1 huge bag of hydroton. No way that it would take 18 bags. If you did do sea of green, there is no way that you would veg in sea of green for a month. You'd be growing trees, not single cola buds.

Careful with lava rock. There's the good kind and then there's the bad kind. Wish I could remember the particulars but, I only did it once years ago and boy did I use the bad kind. Foulest tasting, hottest burning plant I ever grew.

look in a phone book find a place that sells landscaping materials... go buy a sq. yard or so of lava should run you $20 bucks or so... give you more than enough and its cheap in bulk
