BBB... Ebay was about the one place I DIDN'T look. I'm just wondering how he got it for $339 S & H & "fondeling" inluded lol when the PLHydro site sez it's $379. I coulda used that extra $100 towards a decent drip system. Whatever...

mGS and sunnyside... I hear ya. The Teklight is def the Rolls-Royce of the T5 systems.
While I was searching I came across some info about the T6 bulbs. Supposed to be the next big thing, same specs as T5 but fit normal-sized fixtures. Check it out....

Whats up rabid......after attempting to locate my paperwork on the Tek-5, I haven't been able to locate it yet. LOL, you have caused me to doubt the quote I gave you bro. So, at this point, I can only conclude that the price you quoted may very well be correct. Not to be playin it down rabid, but even at the $379.00 price, you must admit that its better than anything else out there. My hydro dealer wants $500.00 plus man, when I looked at him, he quickly stated that he would knock a hundred off! Go figure...

Hey Sunnyside!

Hey Sunnyside!

I have never used my Tek-5s for flowering man as I'm running a different gro show. Nevertheless, thats quite impressive what you did with it! I have thought about it a few times....knowing that it would have to perform satisfactorily. Thats great info you shared and thanks bro....I will definitely make a mental note of that to share with peeps running smaller gro shows.

Outstanding, you already received yours rabid. Did you get it from the place I described? Was the price $379.00 as you stated? The best of growing my friend.....no doubt, you will enjoy that system.

I have got to get me one of these. Time for me to take the plunge, and PlantLighting Hydroponics definitely has been one of the best sites for a while now. Have done business with them for years.

I got the Teklite 8 bulb 4' unit for $439 at Better Grow Hydro (didn't know it was cheaper elsewhere until after I paid for it...could have saved $60...DOH!!!) The New Wave model is $299 and sounds damn near identical to the more expensive Teklite. The budget model is the SunBlaze at $253 but it has 120 volt ballasts and I need 240V.

edit: Those prices are at PlantLightingHydroponics...best value I've found yet.

Tek lights and New Wave lights use the same T5 fluorescent bulb technology.....i think they are basically the same product.....

The Sunleaves company has come out with a brand new T5 8-bulb fixture designed specifically for smaller spaces.....It is called the "Pioneer VIII Jr. and basically it looks like one of those 4-foot long Pioneer VIII 8-bulb T5 units cut in half.....There are 8 T5 bulbs in the Pioneer VIII Jr., but the entire fixture measures around 2 foot by 2 foot...

"The space-saving Sunleaves Pioneer VIII Jr. T5 Fluorescent Fixture provides plants with high-intensity, low-heat light. Featuring an integrated control switch which turns certain tubes off while others remain on, this self-contained unit allows for unprecedented lighting customization. It can hang vertically or horizontally, and comes with eight two-foot, 6,500-kelvin Sunleaves VitaLUME PLUS T5 tubes, hanging hardware, five-year warranty (one-year on tubes) and a built-in 120-volt outlet to link multiple systems together. The Pioneer VIII Jr. measures 23 3/16" x 25 1/2” with a depth of 2 1/4".

I personally saw this new fixture in action and let me tell you it is AMAZING!!! The hydro-dude told me that it out-performs 400 watt HID bulbs, and i saw absolute proof in a side-by-side comparison of growing plants right there in the store. The hydro-dude said that for some reason he had noticed that the plants grown under the Pioneer VIII Jr. fixture had increased nutrient uptake compared to the 400-watt HID. The heat output is quite minimal, allowing plants to be placed very close to the T5 bulbs.....

This fixture represents the technology i have been dreaming about.....finally, it will now be possible to design the ultimate cabinet, which i have dubbed the GROW-POD (tm pending)......Now finally it will be possible to get fantastic yield in a space that can be 100% sealed from the outside environment (with CO2 injection), thereby completely eliminating offensive odours.....the GROW-POD will require minimal exhaust, unlike these hydro-huts which need constant air-cooling to reduce heat and are a pain to set-up and maintain......the overall cost of the unit will be much lower than HID cabinets and hydro-huts.......

The future is bright!!!! :woohoo: :jump:

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

Other than being black and a little bit different design I think the biggest difference in the Tek-Light is that it runs just a little bit warmer with the black hood and not as many air vents in the hood as the New Wave has. I also think the New Wave has a deeper hood than the Tek does.

~The Tek also has a on/off switch but I dont need that its plugged straight to my timer so my New wave works great for me.

~The Tek is aluminum where the New Wave is steel.

~New wave is 120 volt only on there model 22, 24, 28 and the Tek can run on 120, 208, 240, & 277 on all models.

This is all I can find for the time being.

Thanks for all the info on the T5's.....I think I'm gonna copy D Rock and go with the New wave...I'll be hooked up too a timer as well, so no need for certain bulbs too be on and off...It's about 40-80 bucks cheaper(depending on which site your on) and does roughly about the same job......I just saw those pioneer jr.s on a site....They lookd good, but I need a 4 ft set-up to maximize my area

I've spent hours checking out all these different units and I'm sure I saw the New Wave system had the "multi-volt" ballasts on the 4' models. I could very well be wrong though...
Anyway, thats not an issue if you use a 120V power supply (I don't).

The reflector is advertised as the same for both systems. My Teklite came with excellent hanging hardware.

I think both units are damn-near identical except for the price and what D Rock pointed out. All 3 models (Sun Blaze, New Wave & Tek-Light) seem to be manufactured by Sunlight Supply in Vancouver WA.
Check this out for the technical info:

The Sunleaves Pioneer VIII looks like another good one at $354... different manufacturer though.

edit: Discount Hydro in LA has the Pioneer VIII for $279.

Anyone have the Sunblaze? It's like $100 less, and if they are manufactured by the same company? Is it that much diffrent than the new wave or tek? Im sure the reflectors are much diffrent, but is that it? Also anyone ever order from plantslightinghydroponics.com? Do they send stealth(no markings of contents or comany name?) I think I can hold off like 2 more weeks before I really deciede....I have 8 seedlings under 2 of those 24" sunburst T5's

Hey D Rock, I know you were contemplating more lighting for your hut, did you ever think of buying the individual T5 strips and adding theem to the side of your hut attached with velcro? Add em as you need em...I think I'm gonna do that once I got everything.
