Is this the right place to post NewB Questions?

I'm looking to grow and have selected JW NL since it's the stealthy and easiest. That's the only thing I have right now...

I have located a SEALED room in a 1000 sq ft apartment, it is about 12ft by 8ft and has 10 ft ceilings. It will be completely vacant from February until July...

I saw this thread http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=13327

and decided that's probably what I'm gonna do. I am also probably going to get a Hydro Hut Mini. Now I have a TON of NEWB questions so I'm just gonna throw a couple of them out there and hope to get some responses.

1) I'm probably gonna be using a 400HPS light system...so is too much heat normally the problem? I pray it is because I have a 15K BTU A/C dedicated just to the room, so I can run that on full blast all day long. Is there a specific temperature I'm supposed to keep the room the whole time? I think something like 75F would be really easy to do(so hopefully that's around the right number). Or is it differente between vegging and flowering?

2) I haven't even really worked out all the details on how to crack the beans and get the thing started, but lets say I have the tent hooked up, the temperature stays 75F, and the light is all setup. Now all I gotta do is make the bucket as described here http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=13327 ? How often am I gonna have to refill the water and refill the nutrient solution? I was thinking I'd go with one of those HUGE plastic jugs from Walmart and fill the whole thing then cut 10 holes in it for plants and hope to get 4-6 females and just grow those out. Out maybe two of those huge buckets and cut 5 holes in each and grow 2-3 females in each...I'm not really clear on how often I have to refill it with water and nutrients ( I assume each one of these "huge" buckets can hold liek 50 gallons of water)

3) How exactly do I crack the seeds and get the original plant started? I read people say they "manually cracked the beans" then put them in a warm towel but what does that even mean?

Yea so right now I have the beans, I have a HUGE ozone generator and that's all I have. Plus I have this conception that I can just "crack the beans" put them in a moist towel in a hot place for a day or two, then put them in like the soil cubes and put them under the light for a coule days till they're big enough to go in the buckets where I will fill it with 50 gallons of water and the proper nutrient profile and then just continue that for vegging(about 3-4 weeks)... Then pick out the males with the bannana's(I'm not sure i would even be able to identify that correctly yet)... then switch to 12/12 light cycles for 8 weeks of flowering all the while running my 15K BTU A/C on full blast as well as my ozone generator and assuming everything will be ok and voila, I'll have about 4oz per plant when I'm done...

Yea obv I'm a total NEWB and know nothing, but I figure no one really learns how to do it exactly until they acutally do it so that's the step I'm on...

If you grow at someone elses place, they will know you grow, this is a violation of rule #1. I would encourage you to study the basics until you come up with a better plan, although I think it is a nice choice of genetics.

Yea, I've grown up with them since I was 2 years old. But of course, he has half the stake in the operation. It's really his parents high rise apt but they will be gone for 6 months starting in febraury....

Growing can def mess up friendships even very old ones. Yeah never break rule #1. Its really his parents? Yeah dude not a good idea to grow there. Wait till you get older and move out of your parents house before growing.

I shoulda just left that part out of the post. here's teh deal. His parents own a 1000 sq ft luxury apt and they are leaving for India in February and they will not be back until late July. I work full time so there may be times I might not be able to water or change lighting schedules so he and I are in it together. I do live by myself but can't grow in my area and he has moved out of the house also.

We're using a EMPTY APARTMENT that we have for 6 months...this is the only chance I'll ever get...

lol....at least if someone comes by and finds it, you wont be busted...the owner (HIS PARENTS) would be.....

no sweat off your back...right?

you can take our advice and not grow there or you can take a chance of screwing someone elses lives and property.

im thinking the risk far out weighs the reward.

what if you caused a flood or a fire there? we know that could never happen now could it....

you asked our opinion, we gave it....hopefully you make the right decision.

good luck,
JT

Very bad plan puppy, it would be un ethical for us to help you although we encourage you to learn enough to pull your plan off in a better location, one you control, without endangering others.

I'm gonna be 100% honest, I would have NEVER expected this kind of response but I am FLOORED by it (in a great way). I am extremely happy to be part of such a responsible and caring community.

I will work on a safer better idea and then ask the questions I need to know.

JohnnyToke: Very good points, while I cant' say I hadn't thought about them...it's clear I hadn't thought hard enough about them.

I also have to add that the reason I'm so pressed to do it in said area is because their power meters have not been installed properly for whatever reason...as such it runs for the ENTIRE building and the Con ed bill is billed by sq ft. So...this is probably the only time in my entire life where the amount of power consumption will not be noticed.

i like your style and think you are making a good common sense decision.

we are willing to offer any help we can to get your grow started and off to a good start however it just needs to be in an environment that you have 100% control of. that way, if something were to go sideways, it doesnt affect anyone elses livelyhood.

look us up when you get your situation worked out and this community will provide all the advice assistance necessary for you to have a successful growing experience.

regards,
JT

a 400w hps light uses about the same amount of power as the computer your sitting in front of right now or a plasma tv hanging on the wall.

a 400w light running 24 hours a day for a month @ .12cents per kwh runs about $35 per month. 12/12 cycle = $17.50
