First, this design is from Mr Micro’s nanomachine. Thanks for the ideas and help along the way!
I started with an ATX case, 18.5 x 41.2 x 42 cm, with a 400 watt ATX power supply. I epoxyed the chamber divider to the power supply case, so I can’t take any pictures, but I simply cut a hole in the bottom of the box and removed all equipment inside, fed the power cord from a surge strip with the wall prong cut off into it. Then I soldered the surge strip wires to the corresponding plugs from the incoming.
I then placed the divider and epoxyed it in place, with holes for fan and electrical cord to light already cut. Next I installed the fans, Masscool 80mm with specs of 32 cfm, and connected them to Trisonic variable AC/DC adaptor using shrink wrap. I still need to put a screen on the grow side to prevent leaves from being sucked in.
I was tight on space for the carbon filter, so modified the one used by Mr. Micro for a shallower profile. I picked up Black Diamond activated carbon and put it in a pouch made from a furnace filter from home depot. I advise against using the furnace filter, the one I picked up used fiber glass and my hands had slivers for a few days.
Anyways, I lined the black case sides with aluminum foil, the insulation is $20 when I already had the foil, and figured it would help keep temperatures down. Now the whole thing works to radiate off excess heat while the fans purge it =]
I didn’t have a cd drive cover, nor floppy so this machine has a blank face, but it’s not terribly noticeable.
I got 2 42 watt bulbs from www.1000bulbs.com both are TCP brand and went with Mr. Micro’s idea of the 6500k for veg and 2700k for flowering, seemed to work well for him!
A few notes, when light proofing the case with black caulk, I used Vaseline lotion, I’d suggest looking for actual petroleum jelly, since there were some sticking problems when I tried to remove the side panels. Also, give it a few days to dry, I removed mine at 24 hours, and the caulking was still tacky and it led to many times of slipping a knife along all edges of the case before being able to remove the panel.
Well that’s about it, I still have to make the screen for SCROGing… I was thinking I’d use metal coat hangers and epoxy them together…. But I have some time for that. I have some bag seed germinating now, and hope to have some sprouts to plant in a few days. Oh, I will be using Miracle Grow Moisture control potting mix (.21-.07-.14) with distilled water and no plans for nuts for now.
I’ll post again when I have some babies going, and the screen installed. Thanks for the design Mr. Micro, it’s a bit more ghetto then your’s but it should work.
And thanks to King Ralph for keeping me in the game.
