Marc Emery agrees to 5 years in Prison

He did this for Greg and Michelle.

He had no problems spending his life in jail for his cause, but when the DEA started gangbanging Greg and Michelle, calling them "lieutenants" and whatnot, then Marc started feeling pretty guilty that his friends were being dragged.

The prosecutors undoubtedly viewed Greg and Michelle as leverage. The Feds will never go after you unless they have many layers of this protection to ensure that they don't lose face.

Marc was their main target. Greg and Michelle were the leverage they needed to end this thing before it got ugly. (They never intended to let Marc fight it in the courts.)

This is how the DEA has dealt with all freedom fighters in the Cannabis movement. It should not be forgotten that one of the first Cannabis dispensaries was in Key West, Florida. It operated openly for over 14 months, serving AIDS and cancer patients.

After they were finally shut down, the two operators fought hard for their case to help dying patients find medicine. After two years of legal wrangling, they were finally granted permission by a judge to use the medical necessity defense in court. This was the first time a judge had allowed it, and this is when all the major media began running stories about these two hippies who could legalize medical marijuana through a court precedent.

As with Emery, as soon as the case made major media, strong-arm tactics (IE: leverage) were used by the feds, and a deal was struck. The two individuals chose probation over the possibility that the feds would try to fuck their families (the two hippies were both dying, rip.) in every way possible.

The Government is organized crime. The democrats are the Gambinos and the Republicans are the Genoveses. You should use the same precautions when dealing with government agencies as you would when you are dealing with the mafia.

Straight up....no matter what you think of Marc personally, this is some serious Bullsh*t. No one should do any jail time for what you was doing. I've known Marc for over 20 years, love him or leave him this is a very dark day.....

BTW, there is NO parol for anyone serving time in US FEDERAL prisons. Much different in state prisons.

I am not a fan of ME, but that sucks.

I think he got screwed.

But usually, guys with bars of gold and fancy cars and the ones that tend to be a constant irratant in the media; - those guys get a lot longer term than 5 years.

Frankly - I believe every Canadian of voting age should contact their elected officials - from the bottom to the top, and demand Emery be pardoned. There is a message that would be heard round the world.

Why is a person in their death bed complaining about seed orders? You'd think other, far more important things, would be on their mind.

Absolute Injustice

Absolute Injustice

I cannot begin to express my disappointment. This is a sad day indeed. Marc, certainly did not deserve this. I am ashamed of the Canadian government for allowing his charge to go this far. If he truly was guilty of a crime Canadian authorities should have charged him in Canada.

As for the the DEA - I'd like to quote Lou Grew (sp?) and tell them to go "fuck themselves."

I applaud Emery for his vision and countless initiatives to decriminalize a plant which spans the globe and which was here long before we were and suspect will be here long after we're gone.

I'd also like to offer everyone associated with the cannabis culture movement my sincere condolences.

In the meantime, such injustice only strengthens my resolve to continue to play my part in this long procession of life.

Thank you Marc and good luck.

Why can't he just follow through with these court proceedings?

The last time he 'proved' a point he went to jail for passing a joint. Pleaded guilty and went to jail to make it more difficult on the average toker. Before Emery came along this wasn't even a charge 99% of the time.

Now when it's time to face the big boys he runs and hides like a pussy. Don't eat that 'I did it for Michelle and Greg' cause he just likes playing God.

When he could have actually done something that matters he basically let us all down again.

lol conjugal visits with Jodi......

let's remember that Mark Emery is the "self-proclaimed leader" of a movement.....is it fair to say that his actions and/or reactions have had an impact in changing the system of draconian cannabis laws? i don't think so, but i might not have the proper perspective since i don't live in Canada.......

What he did was propagate a philosophy, that of "overgrowing" the government, encouraging more and more independent cannabis growers to set up micro-grows thereby freeing them from the black market and perhaps one day clogging the system with so many cannabis cases that the state is forced to give up prosecution due to lack of resources.......

The way i see it, everybody must be their own "Mark Emery" figure, rising up above the government's propaganda that makes people afraid of cannabis......really, though, most people aren't afraid of cannabis because they know its benign and medicinal properties, they are afraid of the consequences of getting busted.......people have to march in rallies, sign petitions, help out political organizations which seek to minimize the persecution of cannabis growers/smokers, and generally speak out about the widespread injustice of these laws......

Of course, very few people do these things because they are afraid.......but the yearning for change is there, that is for certain......

In the end, the people will finally "overgrow the government" because of spiraling out-of-control costs of incarceration......more and more US states are heavily in debt, and so more and more low-risk prisoners are being allowed to walk free......it could take another 50 years, when the US population is double what it is now, but eventually people will "overgrow the government" and finally recover the fundamental human right to grow medicinal plants......

By the way, look for the "War On Khat," a stimulant herb from Somalia, coming to a theater near you.......

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

What planet are you from? Do you want to pass from this existence into the next (or oblivion) suffering greatly from what is killing you or suffering less because of a medicinal herb ? When I am on my deathbed I will be trying to tighten up ALL of my loose ends. Marc owes me a few hundred dollars too ... I'm not technically dying yet so I guess I'm getting an early start ... I'll try to collect again in 5 years ...

This supposed deal has not been solidified in any way. Greg and I are still in jeopardy. The whole situation is disgusting. I'm physically and mentally exhausted from all the stress, my courage is failing me now. I pray that god protects us.

What an atrocity. I pray your government grows sufficient um, fortitude to tell Uncle Sam to piss off with their bizarre and overreaching hysteria about Cannabis...

George Washington said "make the most of the Indian hemp seed; sow it everywhere".

It is pronounced "Good" on Page 1 of the Bible.

Damn those who would incarcerate their fellow humans over the blessed herb.

I am truly split on my stance of Mark Emery....

In one sense, I think hes a scamming asshole (not sure how many of you remember the major issues Breeder Steve had with 'em)

On the other hand, he is trying to do good for our movement...

Such a shame that one country can play puppet master of another. Thanks be to whatever that they didn't get extradited.

That was my concern when I first saw the stories on youtube. Please keep us posted, we will all hope for the best.

anyone who thinks a u.s. penitentiary is soft obviously has never been in one. emery had a life sentence hanging over his head if the u.s. could have just snatched him rather than having to work with canada, ala noriega as just one example.

emery should take that 5 and run because sadly, the u.s. would have little difficulty proving their case against him. the sentencing reform act of 1986 which included the new federal guidelines regarding drug cases contained provisions dealing with all types of growing. delivery or possession with intent to deliver as few as 25,000 seeds could result in a life sentence! something to think about?

but to the best of my knowledge, no one has ever been prosecuted for seeds under the federal statute. anyone know if i am wrong? the prince of pot may have been the first test case for the u.s. this government loves to prosecute cases that will send waves of fear in many directions. watch the news and note how this is the time of the year to publicize the tax cheats because folks are doing their taxes.

why did canada ask the u.s. for help with emery? does canadian law incorporate seeds along with other controlled substances? i don't know? it was just a guess. but i agree, it is a sad thing for canada especially but all of us as well.

YES it's WRONG but there is NO WAY that I would ever support Marc Emery.

M.E has done alot of good for the movement but lately he's been a total clown. And let's not forget that he outed both Breeder Steve and Reeferman and he also threatend to call the cops on a person on their death bed because they complained that they didn't get the seeds that they ordered.

Take Care and Peace
