to be completely honest, that article does not do the problem justice.. i watched a documentary on these kids, and many of them who had stayed in the same bed for 5+ years where just completely broken, and when one of the documenters would go up and communicate or just play with the kids you would instantly see such a change in them, they definately can be helped. imagine being in a caged bed for 15 years with NO stimulation AT ALL, even jail is leaps and bounds more combforting than that.

Don't believe for a second that humans are as advanced as they think they are when we don't address the suffering and needs of our fellow man.

How did we develop ipods before we housed the homeless and fed the hungry. Something is very very wrong.

blame the war mongers
if there was no war and the money was spent on sorting out stuff like this it could be stopped in a very short time

this is for the US alone
WASHINGTON -- As the U.S. enters its fourth year in Iraq this month, the annual cost of military operations is growing -- even as the Pentagon assumes the number of troops there will shrink.

Monthly expenditures are running at $5.9 billion; the U.S. commitment in Afghanistan adds roughly another $1 billion. Taken together, annual spending for the two wars will reach $117.6 billion for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 -- 18% above funding for the prior 12 months.

$117 billion that would sort a lot of the word's problems alone

wow....... FOUL!

Other than our (the US taxpayers $$$) ongoing humanitarian efforts (millions every single day of the year!) the money of the US taxpayers money is not yours to decide where it would best be spent.

The Czech republic is so much closer to the UK/Scotland, how could you people let this happen right under your own noses? <--- Turn about is fair play, I'll go ahead and blame this kind of thing on neighbors going through life with their blinders on.

Yeah, that sounds about right to me now,

I feel very badly for those kids but blaming the war in Iraq for any of this is just revolting OP.......

nice try on the guilt trip though, nice try indeed!

OH! This is for the UK alone,
wake up & watch what the rest of your european neighbors are doing.

EDIT: btw, what I posted above was intended to sound as ridiculous as blaming the war for anything any european wants to cast our way, I didn't expect this from the admins @ icmag.

What can you do?

What can you do?

War burns money and lives- like shoveling them down some bottomless pit. That $117 billion is only what they are admitting to! The REAL cost could be double that! Black ops, pay-offs, skimming, falsely inflating prices, and anyone remember all that US money that "disappeared" not too long ago?

The world is a mess! With this administration, there isn't much we can do about it. So I (and the rest of the world) am waiting until bush is gone (yes, the lower case b was deliberate- capital letters denote some respect). Nothing good will happen until he is out of office!

But until then, there is something you CAN do to make the world better- FEED SOMEONE! How do you feed someone half a world away? Play freerice.com! Just click the link, play and feed the world!

http://www.freerice.com/index.php

While you build your vocabulary, you earn rice to feed someone. I do a minimum of 10,000 (yes, that's ten thousand) grains of rice every day. I started doing it just after Xmas and I haven't missed one day yet. It was one of my New Year's resolutions. Somewhere a little package of rice will "have my name on it" and someone who was hungry will eat tonight.

Think about it- how much did YOU eat today? 1 meal? 2 meals? 3 meals and a mess of snacks? Pass the favor on to someone not so lucky! - Granny :joint:

Sick. I agree b8man, how do we develop ipods and have all this technology, but kids still starve to death or get put in cages?

Admin has attempted to be tolerant of political threads hoping they would not end in arguments, flames, and such disharmony...there was a time when Gypsy was in agreement to let political threads unfold here as long as they remained civil....but there is no way political threads ever take a different course other than flaming. This is because with ICM being an international site with members coming from so many backgrounds that opinions tend to get heated which in turn causes the moderators and admin much grief. Political beliefs/opinions are things members are passionate about, which causes the inevitable butting of heads and not in a civil manner.

Therefore, ICM will continue to permit a political thread, but only as it pertains to cannabis laws/legislation/legalization....not for the general topic of 'politics', so it's best to stay on topic of this site which is cannabis and not which republican or democrat is right or wrong etc etc etc etc.....The USA is soon approaching a presidential election year and opinions and tensions are already flying out of control here on the site. Therefore, in favor of keeping a harmonious site, no more political threads.

There is a forum guideline on politics:

13. Threads or posts pertaining to religious or political discussions meant to incite or flame others will be closed and/or deleted. ICMag is an international site attracting members from a multitude of religious and political backgrounds, so in favor of harmony and unity, rather than division, it is best to stay on the topic of this site....cannabis. There is a forum for law/politics as it pertains to cannabis.

This guideline was written when admin was attempting to be a bit tolerant to see how things would go....they didn't go well.

If you start a political thread and it disappears to the bin....you now know why...so best to simply not start a political thread (except as it pertains to cannabis legal issues and those go in the cannabis laws forum).

Please do not be angry with the mods for binning threads....they are upholding the directives of admin.

Thanks,
dg

:joint:

The United States is currently borrowing $665 billion annually from foreign lenders to finance the gap between payments to and receipts from the rest of the world, an amount equivalent to $5,500 per American household.

taken out of context
I was pointing out thats just what the US spends (easy to find out) other countrys don't give out details so easily
and notice I said ALL wars and For the US alone

theres more than 2 wars going on in the world right now
the only reason the others are not in the news every night is that there local and don't involve the US or Europe

and I'd be more than happy if the UK pulled out of Iraq and Afghanistan tomorrow
and spent the money helping to save lives rather than taking them

and this is a humanitarian point of view not a political point of view

I like the way political views can be disguised as "moral" or "humanitarian" when it's convenient
