koopa: while you can probably fix this, I'm wondering if it's worth the headache. There are several windows "live cds" out there that you can use. I used this one that some guy made, but I forgot the website. It's good for diagnosing problems in a windows gui.

If you don't have your restoral CD, you may actually have a "Rescue" partition if it's a Dell. I know my inspiron had one before I deleted it and added Slackware. It's basically a barebones windows system. You can also get a copy of a Windows OEM cd. These CDs don't have keys associated with them, and you can just use the COA that came with your computer. I'm sure someone you know has a Windows cd.

I have an IBM T40 (laptop) and apparently something is wrong with the hard drive. I turn the computer on and the hard drive light doesn't go on. It used to go on but wouldn't boot up, now nothing. I used to be able to push the hard drive and the light would go on (but wouldn't boot).

Now there is no light and it doesn't boot but the hard drive is spinning. It's a new hard drive.

I took it apart and wiggled but no luck.

Any idea?
