Hooray, Karma's testers seeds came in!!! 😎

This thread will be all about the grow of them.
If you have experience in growing the melon S1, or other zizi crosses, feel free to jump in along the way to chat about how this particular cross resembles or is different from yours. We will build up a little tester tent for these seeds and be with you shortly to show the set-up and germination

Of to a sweet start with beautiful roots forming, and the first seeds being planted.

This grow will be on soil mixed with perlite and worm castings from our own worm tower, the bottom of the pots have a layer of clay plebbels. We also mixed bionova profimix and micro life in the soil so we can irrigate plain water without adapting EC and PH, however we might give some additional nutrients, for which we will. Next we probably also will use some bio simulators and our worm tea.

We chose for relatively small pots of 3,5L so we can grow out all the 14 seeds and see a larger part of the gene pool in the limited space. We want to keep the plants small and switch relatively fast to 12/12, to prevent root bound and height issues, as we only have
120cm before the plants reach too close to the lights (including the height of the pots).
We won't take clones for sexing, and run the seeded plants to flower so the expression and characteristics might be slightly different when rerun from clones.

The light is a broad spectrum white LED, marshydro FCE-6500 but we cut the frame and tailored it to run dimmed at a higher efficiency. We measured the spectrum and intensity for people who are interested I can post more about it later.

All seeds (14/14) have sprouted, hat's of to Karma. They have now all been transplanted in the soil and the first seedlings are popping up.

Climate management is a bit of a challenge as nothing is automated and we don't have a lung room. We adjust exhaust fan speed manually with a home made dimmer system based on bulbs that act as resistor, and humidity with filling or emptying trays with water. A second trick we use is adjusting the percentage of light and hanging hight so we keep the PPFD constant but can influence temperature and humidity to keep the VPD right.

The other plants in the tent are a cross of our selected headbanger stud with an incredibly fruity cut from a friend, and will be moved out soon. We might open a thread about it, if so I will insert a link here in this post later.

All close up pictures are from the KG Melon x (Z x ZiZi F2) only since that's the focus of this thread 😎🍈🌈. The other pictures are from the tent and fertilizer used, not all seeds were planted on these pictures yet.

Little update, 14/14 of planted seeds are showing their head above the soil of which 12 are showing their first leaves. 2 plants refuse to let go of their seed and they're stuck for a few days now, removing them manually stills seems too tricky and I doubt if they will even make it, they look like they're lacking vigour and there growth almost stopped. Although the germination rate was a 100% I find the KG melon x (Z x ZiZi F2) a bit slow in the start up. The other cross was planted a few days later and they allready seem to overtake the KG melon x (Z x ZiZi F2). Yet it's very early to judge so lets whats going to happen when they start throwing multiple fingered leaves and everything really takes off.

KG Melon x ZiZi
One of the two plants that was lacking behind stopped growing completely, and still did not throw of its seed shell, I tried to manually remove it, but there was no development of leaves yet, and the stem started to dry out so I removed it. For the other I was able to remove the seeds hell and it has been slowly catching up, but the vigour is much less compared to the other 12 plants who are all doing excellent and kicking off. I also started to give them the stimulants from bionova, I find it helps to give them a strong set of roots faster (see picture from planted cut) and make them more reselliant, and as Karma says, the bigger the roots, the bigger the fruits 🍑! The slow start also seems to be over and I can see the plants growing day by day:)

Other plants
The FFC x headbanger will get the same treatments as the other plants and will be moved out to a new tent next week.

There a three more empty spots in the tent. I filled two different KG Sdbx2 phenos (cuts from my moms), and the last one with a sour melon #28 (cut from selected mom) x headbanger (same stud as in the FFC cross)

Special note:
Today is the first day in the Netherlands where at cannabis is officially legally sold to coffee shops, so I want to congratulate everyone who has worked towards this goal especialy to @Karma G and the HH crew, Ashwin, Paul etc. And ofcourse also to the other competitors/collegues

💚✌🏻

What has been your experience with profimix? Would you recommend it? Kinda interested because it seems cheap (in a good way!) and nice!

I like profimix because it makes growing very easy for me. I mix it with the soil, and all I have to do is water, no PH calibration no EC calibration and this really works well if you run different plants or plants from seeds, because they will always want different EC levels and now I just give all of them water and they can regulate it themselves. If however you have long flowering strains, you might still want to give some pk13-14 or other additional fertilizer later down the road, especialy if you have a long veg and tiny pots. Just using profimix alone gives me very pleasing results with a clean taste and burn. It's very similar to bio tabs, but just cheaper and easier to dose imo
