Obviously you missed the point of that story, Brian.
Outside of Russian State controlled media aka propaganda from the Kremlin and people trying to wear down support for Ukraine I have not seen anyone predicting that the conflict will last years and Ukraine will still lose. Most are avoiding predicting any time lines because it's difficult to predict how long Putin will keep sending his people to be slaughtered in one humiliating defeat after another but most seem to be pretty optimistic it could be finished in very short order.
Xi from China and Modi from India have both told him in face to face meetings that it needs to end quickly. those two nations are, at the moment, his biggest customers for his gas and oil. but he cannot "win" the war quickly without being crushed militarily by using nuclear weapons. one mushroom cloud will rapidly be followed by many more...he may have put his nation into a spot that they cannot fight their way out of. surrender, retreat, or sue for peace under terms that Ukraine finds acceptable. he'll likely try to declare "victory" because he killed so many "nazis" and hope the Ukrainian military lets him keep the devastated eastern frontier. they may demand that he return the Crimean Peninsula as a condition of a cease-fire, however.

This is a Canadian based Telegram channel that reports on the Ukraine war. Much different than any other western media.
Only because it's just showing a moment in time and without anything to compare it to it doesn't tell you much. First of all most of that area showing as being occupied by Russia was occupied by Russian backed Separatists since 2014. Second that big area of white in the Donbas region as well as the areas in purple used to be held by Russia but no longer isn't. Third that area between Donbas and Crimea took about half of the time they've been fighting to come under Russian control and even then it only happened after most of the area was turned into a bombed out wasteland thru massive amounts of bombing that has so depleted Russia's stockpile of bombs that they are now reduced to using their surface to air defense missiles from the S-300 Defense systems as guided missiles for surface attacks. Fifth Russia has lost thousands of pieces of Military equipment including mostly tanks and Armored carriers but also planes, helicopters, ships, Air defense systems etc. More importantly due to the cost of the war combined with the heavy sanctions Russia has lost it's ability to replace the lost equipment and munitions from it's own factories and has been force to pull outdated relics of the past out of mothballs and depend on N. Korea for munitions. Sixth Russia has failed to accomplish any of their stated objectives for the war in 6 months against a force the initially projected they would overrun in a matter of days or weeks. Based on objectives Russia lost the war months ago and now it's just a matter of how much death and destruction will be on both sides when they finally stop. That map is from 4 days ago. Just crimea in 2014. The purple is the area Russia held that Ukraine has retaken. Not very impressive. Why do you assume you are getting real info and not propaganda from our side?
