Hi all, thought some of you may be interested.. or even amused.. at the way i tend to smoke!
Basically i have to sneak out to the garden and smoke pretty quickly and discreetly... i roll a single skin joint (a pinner as we call it here in the UK) with a regular sized silver rizla, and i put a roll-up cigarette filter in BOTH ends.. and then cut it in half with a pair of sharp scissors. You end up with 2 very small, pure weed joints and you get about 6 hits off each.
Before you ask, YES you still get absolutely baked with a filter in there...

That made me smile, sneaking out, quickly and discreet. I remember that well. Anyway neat idea using a filter, now my lot have grown and fled the nest I am now smoking 1g blunts in my free time. It’s time to stick a filter in and stop rolling up cardboard. I always thought it would lessen the THC etc.

Dam that is tough to have to "sneak out for a quick toke" I roll around my place with a fattie lit any dam time I want. Nice to be a grown up...lol..no offence!
I usually hit the bong. Mothership beaker with a bubbler added or I have the Masterglass double stage with a bubbler to. Those bubblers are sweet to keep out the ash.
Have a great day all. Peace, negative.

Lol gotta love legal states, I sit on my porch with a fatty between my lips while waving to the neighbors.

No offense Master Glass is garbage, I too have a MG ash catcher, the place I got it from were out of good ash catchers and I had just broke my Hi/Si and needed one. 1 year later I still need to replace it.

You call filter-thick joints pinners? That's interesting.

For me a pinner would be much thinner. Like the amount of weed you have in one of those halves but rolled up full length without any filter.

Coincidentally I think the pinners are the most enjoyable way to smoke. Not the fastest though, they burn surprisingly long. So won't be suitable for the quick 6-hit garden sneak.

What many perceive as harsh or smooth, can be more about the size of the fire, than what is burning.

Cigar smokers seem a long way ahead in this regard. Cigars are as much about shape as region. It is there you would need to read about rolling yourself the right spliff. I'm surprised somebody (bored out of their minds) hasn't transferred the knowledge over with a story about joint sizes.

I thought a pinner was a J so short, you needed a pin to hold the thing. Roots likely in prison slang. Where being very thin was also quite likely.

It's a '1 sheet' in my age group. A no nonsense description.

I like the method. Roll once, but get to light it from fresh, twice. I put a lot of value in that. I like a fresh joint. There is plenty there to get a hit to, if it's just neat.
I use filters almost religiously. I have the theory, that's going to make the most sense to adjustable temperature vape users. The stuff harder to vape, that needs them higher temps, is the first to 'un-vape' onto the filter. I feel there is a notable difference from filters, towards those lower settings. It's so subtle some might say I'm imagining it though.

A paper looked at a load of American brands, and found a 50% reduction in some combustion byproducts.
Table3

" Only 1–2 mm reduction in the diameter of cigarettes can reduce the amount of tobacco in cigarettes by 20%–40%, respectively. Moreover, each incremental increase of 1 mm of the length of cigarette filter increased the absorption of benzene, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, and formaldehyde by 1.5%, 1.3%, 1.9%, 2.0%, and 0.7%, respectively "

The amount less that goes in a thinner J surprised me.
I'm putting about 0.3g in a neat, 1 sheet straight, with filter. If we call that 20% thc weed, we have 60mg. I think 50mg is a typical dose orally. So if I got just 30mg delivered quickly by smoking, that seems reasonable. I tend to put it down to be honest. I could be doing 15mg hits.
I do recall friends weighing themselves out 0.4g for a 3 sheet tobacco mix, many times. Then sharing it.

That thing about hit size really interests me. I have not looked at it before. Nor seen anyone else. It's interesting data (to me, at least)

Cigars are generally not inhaled so the knowledge isn't quite so transferable.

Quick google image search seems to confirm I'm not the only one who considers the j the pin and not the roach clip.

I wonder how old this convention is. I feel quite strongly against the term, and know others around me would visualise someone pinning themselves. A dirty term for injecting.

I'm not sure how this has evolved to mean a straight J, or there cone loosing it's name.

Perhaps I'm stuck in the countryside here, but we just call them what it is. It seems to translate well.

I use thin filter tips, usually 5.2 mm and people call my joints pinners. I would consider you need less diameter for that, but I remember if you go too low even cardboard tips would clog. So don't really know how thin you can go and still have a good experience, but can't be less than 3-4 mm at the filtertip for any regular lenght joint. If its a small one for a few puff, sure, but a bigger one would clog.

Thanks guys, Pinner to my mates and i was a single skin joint because usually we would use 2 or 3 to roll.
i use extra slim filter tips so the joint isn't that fat.
Cutting it also means you get a flat end and can light it like a tailor made cigarette - BUT you have to do this carefully because if you torch half an inch of the spliff when you light it then thats half of it gone!
Last benefit i would mention is that the filters at either end make rolling really easy ... but ive had WAY too much practice in rolling so i can do it in the dark anyway !

@nono_fr i have tried various herbal tobacco but i thought they were harsh on the lungs even if not addictive.

@Grojak - yes i smoked hash with tobacco for years, didn't used to get weed over here much in the 80's and early 90's so that's what we all did. took a while to stop the tobacco but i'm glad to say i HATE it now.

@negative37dBA . lol, i'm in my fifties so just about grown up. Weed is illegal in the UK, no-one really smokes inside a family home any more over here... and i hide my smoking from my kids because i don't want to burden them with my secrets!

@Ca++ yes that is one great benefit, 2 fresh joints. putting a j out means that it stinks and doesn't taste so good when re-lit. The filter may make a slight reduction in high but i don't notice it and i have LOADS of weed. Vaping i feel there are elements of the high missing but i don;t get that same feeling with this method. The pic i posted of the J is a regular sized rizla.

@exploziv - i use extra slim filter tips which are about 5mm diameter. they do a size smaller called ultra thin which are a bit too thin and can clog up.
