As I get closer to (maybe) leaving (if my younger son ever finishes with my larger snowmachine), it's always a moment of knocking out chores that have languished too long, as though the last moment before major event X is the better time to do the transplanting, building of boxes for new powerheads, etc.

Tonight, we'll be prepping dry rub for the ribs, ridding the ribs of the inner membrane, and getting them sectioned and wrapped in food wrap with the rub. After which we'll be moving the propane-fired smoker out from alongside the 4-place snowmobile trailer, leveling it, and getting set for the ribs to be smoking when the young men are here. (*Maybe not such a good time to be removing the fuel tank on that vehicle, or maybe we ought to move it FAR away from the smoker... Hmm).

Anyway, the HRV's soaking, as are its pre-filters. So, I'm back at it.

Mechanic never called. Maybe a misunderstanding, but I don't think so. I suspect he either weaseled out, or my younger boy sabotaged his helpful efforts somehow.

In either case, there's 4 racks of ribs in the smoker, having brined in the juices drawn out by the dry rub through the night and into the day.

I guess I'll be freezing a BUNCH of smoked ribs for the bush, and eating a couple of them at home, too.

Last of the cuttings to be done today. Then clean up the shop and try to get the remainder of the gear list finished.

Still no returned calls or texts from my younger son regarding the snowmobile of mine I'd hoped to be using this trip, which he has had for over a month now.

Sadly his head never outgrew his ears, but the boy could beat out that rhythm on a drum. That part of the act was cute.
