Tips are curling!

Gavita 1700e’s, 5 gallon coco, floraflex bulky b schedule. Day 24 bloom. Grape pie.
my tips are curling! I just defoliated almost a week ago and since then they haven’t really been eating. I assumed it was bc of the defoliation. But now the tips seem to be curling. Some upwards, some downwards. Any thoughts?

The lights may be too close and/or it's too warm.
Another thing, is the humidity adequate?

The lights are as high as I can get them. The plants have stretched quite a bit so if that’s the case I guess there really isn’t anything I can do bc the gavita controller’s lowest light intensity is 50% which I never understood. Annoying.

I think you start to be on the limit with light intensity, thou the defoliating may have also caused some stress if you did that heavily. so their stressed state maybe a combination of both factors; defoliation and intense light.
You’re not super over board with the light but on the limit, imo, i see little led yellowing starting to happen but not so much that the growth should stun; my plants have been more yellow/dehydrated by my Cree cobs but still kept on budding/growing with out much noticeable affect on growth rate.

If the yellowing seems to get worse and the tops/leaves start to feel dry in your fingers, i would start bending down the tops away from the lights. You should easily get an extra 10-15cm between the Gavita and the tops if you’d tie them down to stakes or something.

How much distance you have between the tops and the leds, btw?

Since you took the leaves off the plant it can't transpire water like it once could using its stomata's. . Water and CO2 are moved through the plant via the leaves and when you removed the leaves and still give the same amount of water, your plant is showing leave transpiration issues. . . In other words the tips are caused by too much water. When you fill-up a balloon with too much water the shape distorts as an example. . It shouldn't be too much of a problem if you back off the water just a little until your plant can recover. 😎

Look on the bright side. Each grow is a learning experience. :)

Don't give up. Just keep learning and enjoy doing so. :huggg:

Shortest plant is about 32inches from the light and the tallest is about 18 inches from the light

Ahh that makes a lot of sense! Thank you.

So then next time how would I prevent this from happening? Defoliate less? Or just water less after defoliating? It’s been an entire week since defoliation and they’re still not eating well.

Yea, the taller tops start to be on the limit but they don't look too bad, thou slight yellowing is starting to happen. maybe you have to bend and tie them down abit if they start yellowing more/feel dry in your fingers.

EC of 3.1 is way too much and you may have to flush some of it out with milder nute solution. Are those mineral nutrients you’re using? if so in time they will cause salt build up and you have to flush some of it out when this happens. ..coco growers can give better advises regarding this. I’m a soil grower mostly myself

The schedule I’m following calls for high ec all throughout. I noticed it was weird but what else am I supposed to do right? I figure floraflex knows what they’re doing? Here’s the schedule I’m following.

So do you think the light brightness has anything to do with it as well? Should I refrain from turning up the intensity?

Update: they’re all yellowing! And I’m noticing brown spots. It looks like a salt build up and I need to flush? Flush with RO at ph of 6.6-6.8? Then lower the ec? Ughh help please!
