Venting air from air cooled light and smell

I have a 1000 W Sunlight supply HPS with a glass lense on the hood. If i vent the hot air from the light out a window do i need to clean the air first? and if i do i have to run it through some form of filter how drasticaly will that effect the air flow from the hood and consequently the heat that is removed from the room.

well probably need more info than that.

im assuming your room isnt sealed, i.e. the air going through the hood isnt coming from outside, it is coming from within the grow room.

with that said, FILTER THAT AIR! get a carbon scrubber, make one, but dont vent directly outside from the grow room. thats literally sending up a smoke signal. . .

Another bit of info well need is what type of extraction fan your using, and room size, otherwise we cant reccommend a filter size. Now extraction fan would depend on room size and length of ducting. . .

trying to think if there is anything else that we need to know. . . but anyhow, you get the idea! =P

good luck my friend, and stay safe!

Ras thanks for the reply, iam using a dayton high temparture blower 82 cfm i believe, it came with my setup when i bought it. However when you mentioned about my room being sealed i got and idea. My hood has holes on both sides so i could hook a passive intake from the window and then the cool air would come in and and go backout and there would no need for scrubber because it would basically be exchaninging fresh air that would not have the time to get stinky. That brings up another question though, if outside temps get too cold could it harm my bulb? You said fan would depend on room size, i think your confused this is only exhausting air from my hood not from the room. i run bottled co2 so i do very little venting of the room itself, only of the hood to keep temps at a normal level.

Nah, 1kw HPS bulbs are like the ones used in street lights. If I'm remembering the specs on mine, it's good down to negative temps.

If you draw fresh air into the hood and go with out a filter, you have to make super sure everything is sealed up air tight. If there's one little hole in the system, you'll be kicking out skunk.

Also, you'll still need a filter in the room, to keep the smell from leaking out.

if you get a odor soak the drag will be less.

you can just get a ozone generator .....

the best way to vent is like this :

carbon filter(odor soak 1 size bigger than needed) ,reducer to the right size , vortek or proper grow fan , light , ducting to the outside

....the odor soak or carbon filter is 1 size bigger so the surface area is more to reduce sucking drag...

GJW the fan only sucks it doesnt blow ( well it does but there is not attachment on that side) so i cant realy put it before the light, also the filter cannot realy go out the window so it cannot go first. What i may do is passive intake ---> light---> bucket full of ona liquids w/ absorbtion crystals---> duct out. So i would basicaly dump the air into the bucket aat the bottom then have a fan suck it to the top and out. The light is pretty well sealed, as for the rest of the area i have an automated ozone dispenser like the ones in public bathrooms and if i need to i will make a DYI muffin fan bucket thing (another one that is) i also smoke and burn incesence, i'll play it by year i suppose. i realy do not have visitors and my vent goes out three stories up to a vacnt backyard.
