long nodes vs. short nodes ???

So my question; If you have longer nodes (6" to 8")and put them into flower are they going to fill out better then those that have short nodes(2" to 4")... me and a buddy had a good argument on whether light reaches more bud on larger nodes vs. no light gets stuff on the lower branches of stuff that has shorter nodes...

feed the thread, let's find out

6-8" nodes are huge!

Short nodes are better imo and this is why....

Each node contains a "budsite" with the potiential to yeild. Light only penetrates so deep into the canopy, and at a certain point the node is worthless.

If you had a 1000 watt light at 18"inches form the TOP the light would have to travel 3 feet to reach your 3rd node from the top.

Short nodes are better, long nodes are a sign of low light conditions, keep em tight!

I must agree with the above poster. In my E&G I have a Blue Cheese that has really stretched, I think it will yield less due to this...we shall see!

True for normal grows styles, but in a tight SOG setup 4 plant sq.ft extra node distance, if grown correctly can harvest more in this kind of setup.

im no expert guys but i would have thought if the nodes are closer together all the bud will join up when you put the plant into flower

or of extreme sativa origins. or vegging under HPS...... the list goes on. I veg under 1k MHs and I've got a couple of sativa dom girls that will not throw a node any closer than 4" unless they're right under the hood about to grow into the bulb. Move the light an appropriate distance and they stretch out to 4-6" again.

I agree, was trying to K.I.S.S. and not overload the OP :)

when u say, "they fill out more"; we need to know what the they is & where it is & how many etc. depending on ur grow style, nodal length is an issue to consider. there is a different optimum length for each type of plant, imo. so, best thing to do is ask around for your particular strain from growers here & see what they say. IMO, i always go for short internodes, or 1" preferably at most.

It's really funny, becuase someone mentioned that strain is a good portion of this. In my E&G, I have 2 Blue Cheese and they really stretched out. My White, Widows and Kali Kush have kept the nodes at about 1-2" at the most.

right o...

matanuska... "they" doesn't really apply... for the most part i'm goin for an average... of course there's the usual variables but really those aren't the point.

from what i've gathered it's just better to have shorter nodes. more nodes = more budsites.

indeed strain mos-definitely applies, and from what's been written so far if your growin large nodes get em some more light.

i like. and totally agree
