I had some haze buds from WillyJack, that I could not get to fragrance up.... just hay, all the way through...

What'd ya do Roor? to get 'em to smell up?? Or did they just naturally come around??

Glad to hear your hay days are over......

haha well the funny thing is i've smoked through the harvest so the scent is actually coming from a small nug leftover

the plant was bagseed from a batch of superjack x purple . harvest wasn't very good cuz it got pollinated so every bud had a lot of seeds in it. however still covered in crystals so i've been smoking it, just takes a little more time removing all those seeds

grown in rubbermaid setup w/ 184 watts of CFL lighting 2700k
plants were vegged outdoor for 2 months then flowered indoors (my buddy's plants that had to be moved due to landlord)

perlite + dolomite lime + peatmoss w/ FloraNova nutrients

growth was like a sativa with longer flowering time
smells very fruity!

my curing process:

hang bud in rubbermaid tub with fan blowing and circulating for about 4 days
brown paper bag them for about 3 days
jar cure burping 15min/day once a day
after a couple weeks i leave the jar sealed and just open it occasionally, but not as frequently as once a day

what i would do to cure is this:

- cut plant, trim fan leaves and larger portions of stem. ( i leave only something to hang the bud with, nothing more"
- Trim the leaves covered in trics as well, save this, anf freeze it in a plastic ziplock...you can make bubble with it.
- once you got your buds how u like em, weather it be alil leafy, or no leaf just calayx, now its time to hang em.
-I use paper clips and punch them through the stems on all my buds. this is how i hang em
-now i just a piece of string and make loops in it like ever inch or so (to attach the paper clips). I attach the buds and hang in a closet using push tacks. I usually put one in the wall and one in the ceiling to create a decent bowing.
- I let them hang like this in complete dark for atleast a week. Sometimes it can be alil shorter dep. on size, but usually about a week. I wait till I can snap the stem with no bending.
- At this point, I put them into a paper bag from the grocery store for 3-5 days to continue to sweat them. You will notice that the outside which was cripsy is not so crispy anymore, this is fine.
- You can either let them try out more in the bag by opening it multiple times everyday for a good bit of time to let the old air out and new air in. I would do this for a week. Or you can put it right into the jars, which you could have to open multiple times everyday for a week. I peronsally like my bud alil on the dry side, so I let them stay in the bags till they are crispy.
-Keep in the jars indefinately. If you do not own a set of quart canning jars i suggest you buy some, they are a growers best friend.

It is cruicial that you always exchange the air whenever possible. Fresh air is the best thing to draw the moisture from the bud out. The reasoning behind the process is that you first hang and lose a large amount of water within the plant. But the outside of the nug will always dry first (obv.) When you put them in the paper bag to sweat, you increase the relative humidity around the herb making the outside pull moisture from the center outward. In the bags, the bud will lose moisture slower which allows the inside mositure to be drawn out more evenly than just hanging. This step is crucial to a solid cure. You do not want the outside to be crusty and the inside moist. The jars are critical as well as this is the step which provides most of the taste and smell. By burping them everyday multiple times, you are contantly having fresh air in them, which makes the nugs lose moisture at a much slower rate than the bags, but still provides a fresh exchange. By exchanging the air, you are getting rid of stale, humid air and replacing it with dry air which will capture the fragrance of the bud more easily than humid air. I hope this helps, im stoned, so if it doesnt make sense, pm me and il go over it with you. just remember, trim, hang, paper bag, jars...that order, always. This is not a science by any means...if you like your bud dry, do ti for longer, if you liek it most, do it for less time.

this is the same method i see over and over... but i have a question regarding vacuum sealing.

obviously every harvest/cure will be different - based off size, weigh, strain, etc. but on average - following the hang, paper, glass phases, is there any consensus on when is a good time to end with food-saver sealing bags?

the reason i ask is... im interested in trying the following cure on my next harvest and am wondering if anyone has experience with this and can let me know some advice ahead of time.

1) hang dry in a cool well vented space for about a week
2) i've heard that placing the harvest in 'plastic' bags - leaving them OPEN - and placing the plastic bags in paper bags is best method, so that trichs are absorbed into the paper bag - yet light is totally prevented from penitrating to the buds because of the paper bag... keep here (either in paper or plastic/paper bags) for about another week
3) jars... burping them 2-3 times a day for first 4-7 days, then another week at once a day (so 10-14 days in jars)
4) then - if buds seem dry enough for storage... vacuum seal them in food-saver bags, removing 'most' of the air - but leaving enough so the buds are crushed.

any thoughts?

i would avoid anything plastic, i hear it can mess with the terpines (sp?) and take trichomes off the plant

I just dry till they snap easy and cleanly and then stick in jars or my humidor. Burp jars daily and regulate the humidity inside the humidor.
