Is cal-mag needed when growing in just hydroton clay?

My tap water reads at 30 ppm on a TDS meter....planning on using PBP Grow, Bloom, LK, Hydroplex, Hydroguard, and maybe Sweet :yummy: in ebb & flow.

Cal Mag? I thought the Pro had added cal/mag in it?

WTF?

Some strains need it more than others but with very pure water it wouldnt hurt to add some Cal-Mag. Im not familiar with PBP but I had to add it with Floranova.

I ended up losing a couple plants before I realized I needed Cal-Mag.

Just wait and see if they ask for it or not. Some strains are mag and calcium whores some are not. Keep a close eye and if you spot some rust spots on the edges then in goes the cal-mag.

What strain are you growing?

With my bubblegum you must add cal/mag always and my SourD doesn't seem to matter 1 way or the other. But you realy have to start with none and add if needed just to be safe..

I'll be growing SS's "Chronic".

I didn't plan on adding sweet, and hydroplex until flower, should have said that...sorry

Thanks for all the advice guys/gals!

I don't think you need cal/mag. I grew chronic and the shit grows itself, well almost lol... she loved BigBud

Yea, serious seeds chronic is one of those strains that you give it a little and you get a shit load from it. Very strong plant can take lots of abuse. Hell I bet even sproutco could grow it! :pointlaug

Rush- The Sweet is meant to help the help the transition into flowering as well. Unless money is a factor, it would hurt to add 5ml/gal throughout the grow. and then kicking it up in the flower. Just my :2cents:

I've used CalMag for several years. Dosage is pretty much strain specific. Some more some less. Usually don't have a problem in veg but I always begin adding 2ml/gallon when begining flowering and go up from there if needed. Really never have had to add more than 5ml/gallon.

calmag matters more when you use RO water. I think the filter takes out the calcium thats present in normal tap water...

Here's a couple pics of plants that needed Cal-Mag added. If yours start to look anything like this, pick some up quick! Btw, its not just RO water. Very low ppm tap water will do it too. This is from 43ppm tap.
