my seedlings are 5 days old since they reached the surface. first true leaves are in and the 2nd row of true leaves are starting to develope. is this a normal rate of growth for five days or should they have progressed longer? there starting up under 2 42watt cfl. is it time to hook up the 400 watt mh or should i give them some more time.

don't place the seedlings under the mh until the first set of full fans. (5+ point leaves)

ok i wont. any input on there progress thus far? i actually dont have a mh light its a hps but my ballast is switchable. is the mh much better during veg where i should drop the money on the mh light? also are the mh replacement bulbs at home depot ok for grow lights?

Mist them with a spray bottle and get a new clean pump sprayer to give them luke warm distilled or RO water. Just keep the spray pressure low. Are you controlling temps back down to the mid seventies after germination? Are you on a 24, 18 or 16 hour day? Keep your grow humidity levels up. I'm at day 10 veg and I'm using a MH250 to veg with. I've had to use a lot of water because of low humidity. Mine are starting to get big and they got their first feeding yesterday--a couple of drops of PBP grow and Liquid Karma diluted into a half gallon of distilled. I only use my pump sprayer on seedlings. Once they become small plants with their 3rd internode developing I switch to a small watering can to give water with.

Oh no, you can't use those Home Depot bulbs. You see, they (both the MH and HPS bulbs) are exactly the same, or better, than the bulbs you get at the hydro shop--except they cost less than half as much. So, you see, they cannot be used 'cause they don't cost an arm and a leg, like if you'd bought 'em at the hydro shop.

Seriously, it has always irked me that hydro shops charge $50 and up for a freakin' $20 bulb!!! It is true, there are horticultural bulbs that can only be found at hydro shops, but you can buy a whole 'nother ballast and regular bulb for what you'll pay for them. And you'll get a whoppin' couple thousand lumens more than the 56,000 a regular bulb (like those at Home Depot) will produce. It is NOT worth the cost to buy these bulbs at hydro shops. Anyone would be plum silly to get their bulbs anywhere else.

Yes,those l;ights are fine lol.I always water thoroughly until runoff even with seedlings,if the roots are only going down an inch or two,I make sure I saturate thye soil past that point. Then I wait until it dries out to do it again, just like a larger plant.Keep the flo lights as close as you can heat permitting to reduce stretch,I love the tube flo's for seedlings and brand newe clones,at about 1/2 inch above the tops a flo cant be beat for the first 4 or 5 inches of growth

ok there are 2 type of mh bulbs. one for s type ballast that are the size of my head. and a regular sized bulb for e type ballast.

What did you use before? What does it say on the ballast housing?Usually, they will say something like "use only M-47 lamps" for MH or S-51 lamps for HPS.I would use whatever you had before

ill check on the ballast or the box. i just dont feel like going in the grow room right now. lol i always come out blind for a couple seconds.

The roundish first leaves are cotylydons or whatever.. my second set (the first set of leaves that look normal, but only one blade) were already poking out the day the plants broke the surface and were unfolding by the time the plants stood up over 1.5".. i've had 5 seedlings under a 600watt hps since the biggining. no stretch.. very squat and short internodel length. weed is a light hungry plant. only put clones under the flouros! unless electricity use is an issue.. and dont mist your plants!! misting does not provoke root growth!!!

my plants stretched a bit. does stretching slow growth of the leaves at all? seeing how its focusing on reaching the light.
