Some of the best country and (hippie) western swing music ever played, along with music by 'Asleep at the Wheel'. A whole eccentric genre in its day.

We're getting old.

i saw the commander in 1972- at the academy of music on 14th street in new york- we were in the 1st row on the mezz... which to me are the best seats in the house - 1130pm show on easter sunday - david bromberg and friends opened the show- there were like 10guys on stage - the main act was the new riders- when the curtain came up, 3 members of the new riders had played with david bromberg - about 2 hrs into their set, they announced they had a special guest whom they dragged out of his hotel room, and out they wheeled the commander - they played to around 4am, when they announced the drummer needed to replace the skin on his drum, and they would take a break and come back and do the 2nd half of their show.... we left at that point as i had to go to work - went home slept for maybe an hr, showered , did an up (crossroads) , and went to work - was fine for about 3hrs, but the coming down from an up....sucks.... 1st and last time i did an upper.... quaaludes were the drug of the day.... pity they are long gone...
