In Indiana where I live most Democrats and Republicans in power are against legalization despite the fact that over 70% of the population support legalization in such a red state. If anything that tells me both sides are out of touch. Personally I'm a big fan of Jim Lucas (Republican/Libertarian) who supports both legalization and concealed carry but that is for another conversation.
right libertarian politicians only want to "legalize weed" because for a long time they knew it was never going to happen. It was a safe way to virtue signal to their voters/supporters that they're somehow 'above the fray' by supporting policies the people wanted, while doing literally zero to advance the legalization of cannabis. and on the off chance they do actually follow through on legalization measures, their ideal market is one where those with the most capital control the industry.

On April 29, 2021 Josh Duggar, who worked on numerous Republican campaigns, was arrested on child pornography charges. His arrest comes years after he molested four of his sisters.
