Hi everyone,

I was wondering if there's any guides, or posts that you guys could recommend I read, to help me get the basic understanding of growing? There are so many different factors such as veg nutrients, flower nutrients, proper conditions, drying/curing,etc, that I really want to get a grasp on before just diving into a grow.

For quite a while now, my dream has been to get a grow started, however I have just been incredibly busy with life, and haven't had the time to do the proper research yet and actually get things going.

I have always heard that the best way to learn growing is getting hands on experience, so I am going to try to learn as much as I can online, before I just go ahead and try it out.

Thanks in advance for any advice! :tiphat: I'm so excited for this next chapter in my life!

Sorry about that!

Is there a section of the forum that you think would be best? I was posting it in all of the categories to get the widest range of answers.

Amynamous got you started. We can't point you anywhere useful without more info. How many plants? How many varieties? What method (soil, hydro, aero, organic, coco...)? Are you handy with tools. How much time do you have to spend on plants? Hi-tech, lo-tech, no-tech? Do you need stealth? SoG, ScROG, LST? CFL, HID, LED?

I started with Ed Rosenthal's "Marijuana Growers Guide" It gives a wide variety of methods. I picked the one that seemed best for my situation and it kept me largely supplied, with some dry spells, for years. Then I stumbled on Overgrow (long gone now) and discovered ROOT PORN and DWC! I wanted it!!! I poked through the diary section here for examples of same, dived head first into the deep end of the pool, started my own diary, got tremendous feedback and guidance and in one single grow went from colas the size of my thumb to colas the size of my forearm!

It's a process. Everyone starts at the bottom and works their way up. If you don't want a book lying around that people will see, try poking through the diaries like Goldilocks; this is too big, this is too small, too expensive, too messy... Eventually, something will appeal to you. STEAL THAT METHOD!!! That's why people post them! All the gang asks in return are pics of your big, fat, glistening buds at the end.

First off, i'm stoked you want to start growing your own!!! The best advice i can give you for your situation is this. Decide what style you want to try, meaning, soil, hydro, or soiless and go from there...you can find unlimited info on this forum in the grow diaries section and elsewhere of people rocking out grows from big to small. Find a grower on the forum running a setup that you like and want to replicate, something you think you can realistically attain and afford...it doesnt need to be fancy. Now.....DO IT. Pop some seeds! Bust out some seeds!! The time is now, not later... You dont need to sit around trying to learn as much as you can online...no disrespect. As you said... you are hearing to get hands on experience...for a good reason. There is no better way to learn. You can help connect the dots with research however....but the best thing i can tell you, seriously, start now...dont be afraid to ask questions as you go, theres a great community of people here to help you along the way. OK...stop reading and pop some beans. Im not kidding

There is a tone of good info in my thread for Newbies that’s where I started and if you can duplicate my results on my first grow you will be really pleased
girls got skills
I had a great mentor when I started he taught me the in’s and outs of the perfect flower run and so much more... Now I’m not the best but I can certainly hold my own... 8 years later I’m still learning and being amazed
If your serious about growing I’ll answer any questions ya have

I'd start with one 1000w in a 5x5 tent and get your hands dirty. You're right when you say in order to learn how to cultivate the cannabis plant is through hands on experience. There are plenty of good resources available on her. From nutrient schedule to harvesting, drying and curing. Good luck and have fun

Feel free to check out my album. I am just starting up a 3x3 Grow Tent myself. Doing 3 SkyWalker OG Indica Plants. My pictures are a bit behind where I currently am at (Rooting Day 6), but I will keep updating it on a daily-weekly basis.

As for advice, the way I have done it so far is just a collection of YouTube videos, Googling Questions I have, Message Boards, and talking to the guys at my local hydroponics store. But as others have said, you kind of have to just jump into it. But there are a few mistakes you can avoid making that I did. 1) Invest in a good LED light, it isnt just about the light, it is also about the energy costs and the heat the lights throw off. (unless you live in a cold climate, then disregard). 2) Make sure you get a good exhaust fan, I got just a 4'' inline fan for my 3x3 Tent and have found that I definitely should have went with something bigger and stronger.

So much of this is Trial and Error. Seeing what conditions work for you. Seeing how your plants respond to things you do. I am brand new at this myself but I am loving it so far! I will be transplanting my ladies into their final homes next weekend :)
